The Atlanta Braves signed their first-rounder, Wake Forest left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster, for $2.197 million on Thursday. Shuster's deal was for under slot value for the 25th overall pick ($2.740 million). The southpaw showed improved control last summer in the Cape Cod League and his fastball too a jump in the spring to 92-97 mph. He has a plus changeup and a low-80s slurve to complement his heater. Schuster (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) didn't put up pretty numbers his first two years in college (6.79 ERA combined), but he was a late riser over the last year. The left-hander's changeup remains his best pitch. Schuster will need to clean up his delivery some, but he has the strength to remain a starter heading into pro ball.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
