When Is Ryan Waldschmidt Getting Called Up? Fantasy Baseball Prospect Outlook (Week 3 Update)

MLB Prospects - Ryan Waldschmidt

When is Ryan Waldschmidt getting called up? Will Ryan Waldschmidt debut in April of this MLB season? Read about Ryan Waldschmidt's debut date and fantasy baseball prospect updates for 2026.

Arizona Diamondbacks top outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt was in serious consideration to break camp with the MLB roster, with both Corbin Carroll and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the shelf.

However, with Carroll being cleared ahead of Opening Day, Waldschmidt was instead sent to Triple-A Reno to continue his development to begin the regular season.

Should managers expect the Diamondbacks to promote Waldschmidt in the near future? Is he nearing his MLB debut? Let's dive in!

Ryan Waldschmidt Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

Even though Waldschmidt never appeared in a Triple-A contest before the 2026 campaign, the former Kentucky standout nearly broke camp in the big leagues. Since making his Triple-A debut last week, Waldschmidt has shown he can play at a high level and is on the verge of his MLB debut.

Throughout his first 11 games with the Aces, Waldschmidt has held a dominant .298/.431/.532 slash line with four doubles, two triples, one home run, and one stolen base. On April 9, Waldschmidt enjoyed his best showing at the plate, posting his first four-hit showing of the young season.

However, his path to majors is looking even clearer as the Diamondbacks placed Jordan Lawlar (wrist) on the 60-day IL and Pavin Smith (elbow) on the 10-day IL. Additionally, Carroll is battling a sore hip and could face eventual hit the injured list, opening a clear role for Waldschmidt.

Ryan Waldschmidt Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

While he did not break camp with the major league roster as fantasy managers would have hoped, the current injuries in the Arizona outfield have opened a clear path for the former 31st overall pick. During the 2025 season, Waldschmidt spent his time at High-A and Double-A and posted an overall .289/.419/.473 slash line with 18 long balls and 29 stolen bases.

Fantasy managers should continue to view him as a priority outfielder to stash, given Arizona's current outfield situation. Even though Gurriel is nearing a return, Waldschmidt could provide an immediate spark, especially if Carroll were to miss an extended stint on the injured list.

Heading into Week 3, he is a top stash option in all standard 12-team leagues.
