Should I Pickup Michael Carter or Bam Knight? Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8

Michael Carter - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, NFL Injury News

Should I pickup Pickup Michael Carter or Bam Knight as fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 8 of 2025? Read our fantasy football waiver wire outlooks.

The Arizona Cardinals have their bye week in Week 8. Their starting running back at the beginning of the season, James Conner (ankle), will miss the rest of the season with a dislocated ankle.

The backup, Trey Benson (knee), is currently on injured reserve, and in his place, RBs Michael Carter and Bam Knight have taken care of the majority of the backfield work.

Given that they don't have a game this week, there are likely plenty of leagues in which Carter or Knight are available on waivers. But does that mean you should pick them up? Let's dive in.

Michael Carter Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook

While Carter started in Week 5, the game after Benson got hurt, and racked up 18.3 PPR fantasy points, he was promptly benched for Knight the next game. And while both had similar touch shares in Week 6, Knight pulled away the next game.

In Week 7, Carter had just seven carries for 11 yards, averaging under 1.6 yards per carry, and caught two passes for 25 yards, finishing with 5.6 PPR fantasy points. It's hard to trust him in starting lineups moving forward, even while Benson remains sidelined.

Carter had a touchdown in Week 5, but it was Knight who took a goal-line carry into the end zone the next week. Neither scored in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers. But it's hard to see Carter having much upside moving forward. He can be safely dropped in all but the deepest leagues.

Bam Knight Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook

The case for Knight to have at least one more solid game is much stronger. The weak Dallas Cowboys rush defense are on the menu in Week 9, after the bye. They did a good job of containing Washington Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt, but the Commanders struggled with their top-2 receivers out of the game.

And it was pretty obvious early that Knight was simply better with the ball in his hands than Carter. He'll keep the starting job on the road against Dallas, which should make him valuable as a desperation fill-in for injured RBs on fantasy rosters, at least in Week 9.

He has some value after that, too, as even when Benson comes back, he could serve in some kind of committee with him. That value would probably only be worthy of a bench spot in deep leagues.

Should I Pickup Michael Carter or Bam Knight For Fantasy Football?

If you want to snag one of these RBs, Knight is the obvious choice. It would probably be an uphill battle for Carter to be fantasy relevant even in Week 9 unless Knight gets injured during the game and is forced to exit. Carter doesn't have enough of a receiving role to make up for his lack of rushing volume.

Where Knight struggles is in pass-protection, though, and when Benson comes back, the Cardinals might opt to give him the lion's share of the backfield work. It's extremely important to protect the quarterback, of course. Benson is 10 pounds heavier than Knight, which helps him in that part of his game.
