Time to Drop Tre Tucker? Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Tre Tucker - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Should I drop Tre Tucker for fantasy football Week 5? Is Tre Tucker a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker blew up in Week 3, making eight catches for 145 yards and three touchdowns. He already has more touchdowns this season than he did in either of his first two seasons.

But Tucker followed that massive week up with a dud. In Week 4, he hauled in just two passes for 13 yards.

Tucker has been extremely inconsistent this season. He has gained 50 or more yards twice, scoring a touchdown in both of those games, but in the other two games, he was held to three or fewer catches for 13 or fewer yards. Can you rely on Tucker's boom-bust production on a week-to-week basis, or should you cut Tucker? Let's dive in!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Should I Drop Tre Tucker in Fantasy Football?

Tucker was selected in the third round of the 2023 Draft. He was known for his quickness and acceleration. His 40-yard dash time was pretty good. At 4.40 seconds, that was better than 84% of receivers. His 10-yard split was even better: 1.48 seconds, putting him at the 94th percentile. But his size is well below average. In essence, Tucker is good at beating the coverage to get open deep.

Tucker's abilities as a deep threat are useful for an offense, but that also means his production is hard to predict for fantasy purposes. He's not going to catch a 61-yard touchdown pass every game.

Going back to his rookie season, Tucker has always done his best work down the field. In each of his three seasons, including this year, Tucker has earned a PFF grade of over 93.0 on passes of twenty yards or more, while his grades for short passes and screens have been worse.

The Raiders do not have a fixed pecking order in their receiving corps. Jakobi Meyers is the team's WR1, but he would not be the WR1 on most teams, and his target share has fluctuated, declining in the past two weeks.

Dont'e Thornton Jr. is a rookie who is starting as the WR3, but his performance has not been earthshaking. He has kept fellow rookie Jack Bech out of the lineup. Tight end Brock Bowers is the most talented receiving weapon, but he has been limited by a nagging knee injury.

Given the mediocre quality of the Raiders' receiving room, it is quite likely that Tucker will continue to be the team's leading target from time to time. In managed fantasy football leagues, it is just impossible to predict when those weeks might be.

If you play in a deep league with four or more wide receivers or three or more flex spots, taking a gamble on Tucker might very well be worth it compared to starting a WR6 who can offer a consistently low level of production without Tucker's upside. Tucker is an archetypal best-ball star.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?

If you are looking for a wide receiver to stream in Week 5, Luke McCaffrey of the Washington Commanders is a very good choice. McCaffrey has strung together two straight solid games. In the absence of Noah Brown, he has scored his first two NFL touchdowns in the past two weeks. With Terry McLaurin having been ruled out for Week 5, as well as Brown, McCaffrey should remain a focal point of the Commanders' passing game.

The return of Jayden Daniels as the Commanders' quarterback should help, too. McCaffrey's upswing in production came with Marcus Mariota behind center, but Mariota attempted fewer than 28 passes in both starts. Daniels, in addition to being an elite talent, is a high-volume passer, having attempted 30 or more passes in his past nine full games.

Those in deep leagues with more than 12 teams might consider adding fellow Commanders WR Chris Moore, who has played over 50% of Washington's snaps in each of the past two weeks due to the injuries to the starters.

For a longer-term fix, the Cleveland Browns' Isaiah Bond should be considered. Bond has seen consistent increases in snaps, targets, receptions, and yardage in each week. With Cedric Tillman having been placed on the IR with a hamstring injury he suffered against the Lions, more opportunities will open up for Bond.
