San Diego Padres reliever Jason Adam (quadriceps) ruptured his left quadriceps tendon in a 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, manager Mike Shildt announced. Adam's leg buckled, causing him to collapse, after Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson hit a ground ball up the middle in the top of the seventh inning. The right-hander was in obvious pain and had to be carted off the field. Adam said he's likely to miss six to nine months if an MRI confirms the rupture, but he's hopeful he'll be ready for spring training in 2026, according to Andres Soto of MLB.com. Assuming Adam is done for 2025, it's a horrific ending to a great season for the 34-year-old. He appeared in 65 games and went 8-4 with a 1.93 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, 70:25 K:BB, and 29 holds in 64 2/3 innings. With fellow high-leverage relievers Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon, and Jeremiah Estrada still around to set up closer Robert Suarez, the back end of the Padres' bullpen remains in good shape. Nevertheless, losing Adam is a significant blow to a San Diego team that's trying to chase down the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West or at least earn a wild-card berth.--Connor Byrne
