The Chicago Cubs have placed right-hander Jameson Taillon (groin) on the 15-day injured list with left-groin tightness and recalled righty Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa. Taillon suffered the injury on Sunday when he had to leave early after tossing five innings of one-run ball in a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The 33-year-old felt OK after throwing off a mound on Wednesday, but the Cubs are taking a cautious approach with him, and they're optimistic that he'll return in two weeks. Taillon is now on the IL for the second time this season after sitting out all of July and two-plus weeks in August with a calf strain. In 19 starts and 106 1/3 innings this year, Taillon has gone 9-6 with a 4.15 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 81:21 K:BB.--Connor Byrne
