Victor Caratini in the Concussion Protocol
Victor Caratini (concussion) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the visiting Colorado Rockies and is in the league's concussion protocol, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. With Yainer Diaz (hand) also missing another day due to an injury, the Astros called up backstop Cesar Salazar, who will make the start and catch left-hander Framber Valdez on Wednesday. It's possible that Caratini will land on the seven-day concussion injured list, which would mean Salazar would stay around for at least a week to serve as Diaz's backup. The 32-year-old suffered a concussion after recently taking a few foul balls off his mask. The veteran switch-hitter has been a nice complement to Diaz for the Astros this year and has matched his career-high total of 11 homers while batting .262 (78-for-298) across 95 games. UPDATE: Caratini was placed on the seven-day concussion IL.
