Will A.J. Brown Play in Week 1? Fantasy Football Injury Update

A.J. Brown - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL DFS Lineup Picks

Will A.J. Brown play for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025? Will A.J. Brown be healthy enough to play in Week 1? John breaks down the latest A.J. Brown injury news for fantasy football.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown (hamstring) injured his hamstring earlier this August and hasn't participated in a practice since then. This would be more alarming during the season if Brown had missed this much time, including regular-season games, but in the offseason, things are a bit more unclear.

Teams have every incentive to be careful with their star players. Brown has now been with the Eagles for three seasons, and the chemistry he has built with his starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is undeniable. There's no reason Brown needs to practice, and he'll be fine without it.

Still, hamstring injuries are highly concerning for receivers. Brown has a lengthy injury history, including previous hamstring issues. As players age, their bodies' ability to stay healthy declines, so will Brown play this season? If so, what about Week 1? And what's his fantasy football outlook like right now?

Will Brown Play This Season?

Yes. This injury, even if it persists into the season, isn't typically one that holds players out for extended periods of time. Brown is one of the NFL's best receivers, and in a season that the Eagles face a lot of tough opponents, he will be absolutely vital in their attempt to reclaim the division title and make a playoff run.

Brown played through a multitude of injuries last season. He admitted in an interview that he had to get his knee drained twice a week, including before the Super Bowl, yet he performed well down the stretch and had a fantastic performance in the biggest game.

Players in the NFL continue to take the field even after serious injuries. There isn't enough time in between games to recover from injuries with recovery times of multiple weeks or months, of course, and some ailments cause permanent damage.

Will A.J. Brown Play In Week 1?

It seems likely, given that we haven't received any clear reports indicating otherwise. He still hasn't practiced, but he at least participated in a pre-game workout, working with Hurts, before the Eagles' final preseason game on Friday, August 22.

Hamstring problems can recur at any time for professional athletes. Playing in the NFL puts massive strain on the human body. It's obviously possible that he could re-injure his hamstring later, but he's had plenty of time to recover, and there have been no indications that it's a serious injury.

A.J. Brown 2025 Fantasy Outlook

Brown's 2024 season was viewed as disappointing by many fantasy managers. The run-heavy Eagles offense capped Brown's overall upside. Philadelphia ran the ball the most of any team in the league by a solid margin, but that might not be the case this year.

In the 17 weeks in which most fantasy football leagues play all their games, the Eagles have two games against the Dallas Cowboys, and one each against the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, and Buffalo Bills.

Philadelphia probably won't have the luxury of running the ball as much as last season and is likely to be forced to pass much more than they did in 2024. That's of enormous benefit to the Eagles' receivers. With Brown regularly falling to the back half of the second round, he seems like a massive value.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better pick to make in the second round than Brown, especially if you pick between picks one and six overall. Pairing Brown with another elite wideout like CeeDee Lamb or Justin Jefferson could pay big dividends.

He ranked third in the NFL in yards per route run in 2024, showing that he was still elite, despite lower overall volume than usual. He's one of the NFL's best wideouts, and you should make it a priority to draft him heavily with your second-round picks in redraft leagues for 2025.
