The Washington Nationals have selected shortstop Eli Willits with the first overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Fort Cobb-Broxton High School. The 17-year-old infielder is 6-foot-1 and is a switch-hitter. Willits verbally committed to playing collegiate baseball at Oklahoma but will likely begin his professional career in the Washington system instead. MLB.com credits the young shortstop as being a better hitter from the left side of the plate and has "outstanding" bat-to-ball skills. He knows how to make hard contact and hit line drives. While he may not have the highest power potential, he should hit around 15-20 home runs per season while showing an elite eye at the plate.
