The Washington Nationals have selected shortstop Eli Willits with the first overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Fort Cobb-Broxton High School. The 17-year-old infielder is 6-foot-1 and is a switch-hitter. Willits verbally committed to playing collegiate baseball at Oklahoma but will likely begin his professional career in the Washington system instead. MLB.com credits the young shortstop as being a better hitter from the left side of the plate and has "outstanding" bat-to-ball skills. He knows how to make hard contact and hit line drives. While he may not have the highest power potential, he should hit around 15-20 home runs per season while showing an elite eye at the plate. He is also credited with having plus speed and a strong arm, which should translate well to the major leagues. Willits will join a pitching-heavy Washington system that features Travis Sykora and Jarlin Susana. Fantasy managers should not expect Willits to compete for his MLB debut for several seasons. However, given his elite raw profile, he will be a top pick in many first-year player drafts.--Andy Smith
