We've seen numerous prospects get called up for their highly anticipated debuts already this season, including the likes of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Dalton Rushing, and Jacob Misiorowski.
One team that is no stranger to calling up its young prospects is the Athletics. Last year, we saw the A's bring up Jacob Wilson early, and this year, we saw the team bring up Nick Kurtz even earlier after a scorching hot start.
But when will it be Colby Thomas' turn? Can we expect him to make his debut in June or July? Let's take a look and see when that will likely happen.

Colby Thomas Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Colby Thomas was a third-round draft pick back in 2022 and came out of Mercer renowned for his big-time power. The Georgia native has methodically risen through the ranks of the Athletics' farm system and displayed the propensity to hit home runs all along the way.
In 2023, he smacked 18 home runs in 126 games between Single-A and High-A. Then in 2024, he hit 14 home runs at Double-A before earning himself a promotion to Triple-A, where the right-handed slugger whacked another 17 long balls while hitting .277 over 73 games, although it came with a 30.0 percent strikeout rate and 18.1 swinging-strike rate.

Fast forward to this year, and he's now 73 games into the 2025 season, one more game than he played at that level last year. The Athletics' second-ranked prospect has put up similar numbers, but has made strides that should propel him to the majors sooner rather than later.
The 24-year-old has 17 home runs, but this year it has come with a more palatable 26.0 percent strikeout rate and 14.3 percent swinging-strike rate, which has helped him to an improved .299 batting average. While he doesn't walk a ton, it's still close to average at 6.9 percent, giving him a strong .365 OBP.
His 66 RBI are tops in the Pacific Coast League, and the 60 runs scored are second-best. At this point, it seems there is little left to prove, so when will he get the call?
Colby Thomas Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
Trying to pinpoint when Thomas will get the call to the majors isn't really a matter of whether he is ready or not, it's a matter of opportunity.
Remember when we mentioned the A's aren't shy about bringing up young prospects? Well, another one they've already called up this season is Denzel Clarke.
So with a healthy Clarke, Lawrence Butler, and Tyler Soderstrom, as well as Brent Rooker, who can play outfield and JJ Bleday, too, there wouldn't be at-bats for Thomas even if he were to get the call.
Bleday has struggled, but you don't want Thomas to come up and ride the pine, so it will likely take an injury to one of the starters to open the door.

When that happens, managers in need of power should surely be interested in Thomas, but that's not all he offers. In the previous section, we didn't even mention the fact that he has some speed, too. He swiped 25 bags in 2023 and another 15 in 2024, with six steals so far in 2025.
The high-ish strikeout rate should give managers reason not to overspend on the youngster, but with a solid power/speed combo, he'll be rosterable in deep and AL-only leagues once the major league opportunity presents itself. Unfortunately, that will likely happen as a result of injury, and not easy to predict.
In all likelihood, though, it will be before the end of July, and he's available in nearly all Yahoo! leagues.
