Matt Wallner Out Against a Lefty on Tuesday
Matt Wallner is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday for the series opener against the Cincinnati Reds with a left-hander on the mound. Utility man Willi Castro is making the start in right field at Great American Ballpark and will bat third against Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott. Wallner hasn't been good overall this year, but he's been much worse against lefties, going 3-for-20 in limited at-bats against them with one of his five home runs and eight strikeouts in 23 plate appearances. Wallner has gone hitless in his last three games with four strikeouts and has gone 6-for-41 (.146) with three homers, three RBI, four walks and 13 strikeouts in 12 games this month. Castro, a switch-hitter, has made much more contact in 2025, hitting .290/.365/.483 with an .848 OPS in 176 at-bats. He's hit .327 (18-for-55) with three of his seven homers against southpaws, making him a DFS sleeper target.
