Gameweek 37 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 37 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

Matchday 36 highlights feature the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League finalists. Manchester United and Tottenham both suffered defeats at home, while Manchester City had to settle for a point against Southampton. We have only two game weeks left; prepare your fantasy teams as we deliver the best FPL recommendations every week.

The FPL Challenge: Race for Europe reaches its finale with this week's task tagged 'Arsenal v. Newcastle,' where selecting key players from this matchup earns double points. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your point potential.

The Gameweek 37 deadline for the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Friday, May 16, at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 37 FPL Tips

Target Aston Villa and Everton Assets

Aston Villa has already secured a place in Europe for next season after earning three points against AFC Bournemouth in Gameweek 36. However, the top-5 EPL finish race is far from over, as the Villans aim to qualify for the Champions League in back-to-back seasons.

Villa's final home game of the season is against 17th-place Tottenham. Their London opponents have been in poor form, securing only one win in the last 10 league games and conceding 21 goals in that timeframe.

Looking for a way to stand out in your mini-leagues? Friday's early kickoff appears to be the ideal moment to go all-in on Aston Villa assets, as the Villans welcome Spurs to Villa Park.

Speaking of home ties, Everton fans are looking forward to ending the season on a high note. The club will play its final game at its current stadium, Goodison Park, on Sunday, May 18, before moving to the new Everton Stadium next season.

Their next opponents, Southampton, battled hard to prevent Manchester City from scoring in Matchday 36. However, the Saints will face a difficult challenge in shutting out Everton, who are poised to march around the pitch after scoring their final home win at Merseyside.

To this end, FPL managers are advised to prioritize selecting assets from either Aston Villa or Everton for Gameweek 37. According to goal projections, Aston Villa and Everton are expected to produce a 2.65 xG and 2.10 xG (expected goals) against their respective opponents this week.

Recommended FPL assets for Gameweek 37

  • Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, and Emiliano Martinez.
  • Everton: Beto, Vitalii Mykolenko, and Jordan Pickford.

Gameweek 37 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Jarrod Bowen against Nottingham Forest, Cole Palmer against Man United, and Erling Haaland against AFC Bournemouth present strong cases. However, our top two captain picks this week are:

Bryan Mbeumo (£8.3m) - Brentford

Bryan Mbeumo, the latest Premier League Player of the Season nominee, tops the charts for captaincy picks this week. The Cameroon international has been brilliant for Brentford this season, contributing five attacking returns in his last four outings.

Mbeumo has a solid record against London teams, scoring seven goals against top teams like Crystal Palace, Chelsea, West Ham, Tottenham, and Arsenal. Mbeumo is our RotoBaller captain of the week, as he looks to help Brentford secure their fifth win in a row.

Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) - Aston Villa

With his 16th strike of the season, Ollie Watkins stamped his name in the record books and is now Aston Villa's leading goal scorer in the Premier League. The 29-year-old has accumulated 30 goal contributions for Villa and amassed 179 FPL points this season.

Averaging a 0.56 xG (expected goals) in the Premier League and coming up against a leaky Spurs defense next, the Englishman is set to wreak havoc this weekend. He is a compelling captain pick for Matchday 37.

FPL Challenge: Race for Europe

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The 36th challenge in the Race for Europe, dubbed "Liverpool v. Arsenal," focused on players from Brighton and Newcastle who earned double points. The latest challenge brings the Race for Europe series to a close, and it's been an eventful run.

Race for Europe FPL Challenge: Arsenal v. Newcastle - Players to Target

Week 37 of the FPL Challenge involves selecting a team of five players with an unlimited budget. However, this week's task focuses on selecting players from Arsenal and Newcastle who are set to earn double points.

RotoBaller's top picks for this week's challenge are:

  • In defense, a double selection of Arsenal's David Raya in goal and William Saliba in defense are two solid picks to bank on for clean sheets, fitting in perfectly with this week's task for double points.
  • In midfield, Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze has bagged 35 points in his last three matches, scoring four goals for the Eagles, and will be our top midfield option against Wolves.
  • In attack, Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Everton's Beto complete the attack, rounding off our lineup in a 1-1-2 formation. Ollie Watkins takes the spotlight as our captain of the week.

Remember, you are free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives that are not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
