Evan Engram Top Landing Spots: 2025 NFL Free Agency Outlook

Which teams are potential landing spots for free agent tight end Evan Engram for fantasy football? Dave breaks down all the top landing spots for Evan Engram.

Evan Engram was recently cut after three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was ultimately a cap-saving move for Jacksonville’s new regime. Cutting Engram created over $15 million in cap space per Over The Cap.

Upon his release, he immediately became the top tight end available on the open market. 2024 was an injury-plagued season for Engram. The Jaguars ultimately decided to move forward without him, and Engram will look for a fresh start elsewhere.

There are several teams with openings at tight end. Engram turns 31-years-old in September and has averaged less than nine yards per reception in each of the last two seasons. However, he may have enough left in the tank to help a tight end needy team. Let’s take a few minutes and discuss several potential landing spots for the eight-year veteran.

Denver Broncos

Engram recently met with the Denver Broncos to discuss a potential contract. An agreement wasn’t reached, but the Broncos remain on Engram’s radar. Head coach Sean Payton has stressed throughout the offseason that Denver needs to find a “joker” on offense. This is a player who can create mismatches for the offense and can line up all over the formation.

It’s unclear if Engram still has these capabilities at this stage of his career. However, this would arguably be the best landing spot for his fantasy value. If Denver ultimately decides to sign Engram, then it’s clear that Payton has a role in mind for him. We could very well see a bounce-back season from Engram if he does wind up in Denver.

Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles is the second team known to have met with Engram. After missing out on receiver D.K. Metcalf, the team is searching for another pass catcher. The Chargers had a stretch of nice production from Will Dissly last year, but they seem to be looking for an upgrade this offseason.

Engram would arguably be the team’s second-best pass-catcher behind Ladd McConkey. However, this may not be the best landing spot for his fantasy value. Los Angeles featured a run-heavy approach in 2024 and had the fifth-fewest passing attempts in the league.

With Jim Harbaugh as head coach and Greg Roman calling plays, that approach is unlikely to change in 2025. Signing with Los Angeles would be a good pure football move, but would likely limit Engram’s fantasy football ceiling.

New York Jets

Recent reports suggest Tyler Conklin does not intend to re-sign with the team. As a result, New York now has an opening at tight end. The Jets had already reportedly been in the market for a tight end this offseason prior to the Conklin news. While many experts have speculated they will take a tight end with the seventh overall pick in the NFL Draft, the recent signing of quarterback Justin Fields might make it more likely they address the offensive line with that pick.

That could mean the team turns to free agency to address the tight end position. Engram would bring a veteran presence to this offense and could mesh well with Fields.

On paper, this doesn’t seem like an ideal landing spot. However, Cole Kmet produced TE7 and TE8 seasons playing with Fields. So this may not be as bad a landing spot for Engram as some might think.

Indianapolis Colts

General manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen have both stated the team needs to upgrade the tight end position this offseason. Indianapolis may choose to attack this position in the NFL Draft. Many draft experts have consistently mocked one of Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland to Indianapolis at the 14th overall pick.

However, both prospects are reportedly very highly regarded around the league, and it’s possible neither will fall to the Colts. Indianapolis could be aware of this possibility and might choose to sign Engram as a result. He would be an immediate upgrade as a pass-catcher compared to the other tight ends on the roster.

Working against Engram here, though, is the fact that there are numerous appealing tight end prospects available in the incoming draft class. Indianapolis might choose to select one of them on Day 2 of the NFL Draft if Loveland and Warren are not available on Day 1. Regardless, Engram would be a nice fit in Steichen’s offense if he does sign with the Colts.
