Gameweek 28 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 28 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

After a short 10-day hiatus, the Premier League is back! Gameweek 27 concluded with Liverpool's title chase gaining a 13-point lead over second-place Arsenal as the Reds hunt their 20th league title. Only a few hours till Gameweek 28 begins. Ready yourselves! RotoBaller offers you the best tips to help with your fantasy team.

The FPL Challenge: Assistant Manager Series is in its final week, tagged "Double Down," where a real-time Premier League manager earns double points. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your point potential.

The Gameweek 28 deadline for the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, March 8, at 6:00 a.m. EST. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 28 FPL Tips

Invest in Crystal Palace and Brighton Assets

Crystal Palace have improved their form under Oliver Glasner, winning three of their previous five games and scoring 10 goals. The Eagles will be without top forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, who suffered a head injury in the previous FA Cup round, while Will Hughes is absent due to suspension.

Daniel Muñoz is a key asset to have on your team this week. The Columbian International has four attacking returns (two goals and two assists) in his previous five games and is expected to contribute to Crystal Palace's goals this weekend when the Eagles host Ipswich at Selhurst Park.

Defeating Chelsea in consecutive matches and eliminating Newcastle United from the FA Cup. Brighton is now five for five in all competitions, indicating a phenomenal shift in form.

Perhaps this newfound form will be enough of a push to face Fulham on Saturday. As history would have it, the Seagulls are winless against the Cottagers in the Premier League and will be looking to set the scores right, likely extending their winning streak before the international break.

To this end, FPL managers are advised to prioritize selecting assets from Crystal Palace or Brighton for Gameweek 28. According to goal projections, Crystal Palace is projected to produce a 2.10 xG (expected goals) and 1.75 xG for Brighton against their respective opponents in Gameweek 28.

Recommended FPL assets for attacking returns:

  • Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze (on pens), Ismaila Sarr, and Daniel Muñoz.
  • Brighton: Joao Pedro (on pens), Yankuba Minteh, and Danny Welbeck.

Note: Before selecting any of the recommended players above, keep in mind that Crystal Palace assets will be unavailable in Gameweek 29 due to a blank gameweek, while Brighton face a difficult fixture against Manchester City the same week. Choose wisely!

Gameweek 28 Top Captain Picks

The midweek fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Erling Haaland against Nottingham Forest, Cole Palmer against Leicester, and Jarrod Bowen against Newcastle present strong cases. However, my top two picks would be:

Mohamed Salah (£13.8m) - Liverpool

Mohamed Salah leads the FPL rankings with 291 points and averages 10.6 points per match. The Egyptian King now has 42 goal contributions (25 goals, 17 assists) for Liverpool in the Premier League and is a no-brainer each week for the captain's armband.

The 32-year-old boasts a goal record of nine goals scored in his last 12 outings against Southampton. Mo Salah also scored a 13-point haul against the Saints in Gameweek 12 and will be aiming to break his own 303 FPL point record this weekend at Anfield. Salah is our RotoBaller captain of the week!

Bryan Mbeumo (£8.1m) - Brentford

The Cameroon international, who has scored 15 of Brentford's 48 goals this season, is a top contender for the captain's armband this week. In the last two Brentford games, Mbeumo registered a total of 1.24 xGI (expected goal involvement), demonstrating his attacking intent to both score goals and create for his teammates.

Taking on their next opponents, Aston Villa, a team that is yet to keep a clean sheet since Gameweek 22, Bryan Mbeumo would be eager to add his name to the scoresheet against Villa's leaky defense.

FPL Challenge: Assistant Manager Series

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The 27th challenge, "Team Chemistry," focused on selecting players from a Premier League manager's team who earned double points for every return. This week's challenge marks the finale of the Assistant Manager challenge, and our job is to help you maximize points for each task presented.

Let's look at how the Assistant Manager series has developed thus far.

The Assistant Manager Series is a five-gameweek run that experiments with the Assistant Manager chip, as fantasy managers can select any Premier League manager to boost their fantasy team. This series covers five tests focusing on earning points through different players and play styles.

  • Gameweek 24 to 26: The Assistant Manager GW 1-3 - You can play an Assistant Manager.
  • Gameweek 27: Team Chemistry - Players from the Assistant Manager's Club earn double points.
  • Gameweek 28: Double Down - Assistant Managers earn double points.

Assistant Manager FPL Challenge: Double Down - Players to Target

Week 28 of the FPL Challenge involves selecting a team of 10 players and one Premier League manager with a budget of £100 million. This week's challenge: A selected Premier League manager will receive double points for each return.

RotoBaller's top picks for this week's challenge are:

  • In goal, Alisson Becker is our top goalkeeper of the week.
  • In defense, Daniel Muñoz, Virgil van Dijk, and Pervis Estupiñán. All three defenders are solid defensive assets to bank on for this week's task.
  • In midfield, Jarrod Bowen, Bryan Mbeumo, Dominic Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Pedro Neto are our top midfield options. Salah takes the spotlight as our captain of the week.
  • Erling Haaland completes the attack as the lone forward, rounding off our lineup in a 3-5-1 formation.
  • Oliver Glasner is our top manager for the Team Chemistry Assistant Manager FPL Challenge.

Remember, you are free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
