Gameweek 23 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 23 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

Phil Foden and Justin Kluivert were among a few standout FPL assets who delivered double-digit returns in Gameweek 22. The countdown has begun, and we are less than 48 hours away from when Gameweek 23 resumes. Ready yourselves! We offer our best tips to help you prepare your fantasy team for the weekend.

The FPL Challenge: Transfer Window Special series approaches its final week with a new task tagged "Instant Impact," where players signed in the January transfer window earn double points. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your point potential.

The Gameweek 23 deadline for the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, January 25, at 8:30 a.m. EST, when five games kick off. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

FPL Gameweek 23 Tips

Home Advantage: Invest in Tottenham and Liverpool Assets

Tottenham is currently out of shape, winning only one game in its previous 10 matches and only eight points above relegation. It's been a torrid time being a Spurs fan, as the club is now ranked 15th on the table. Nonetheless, Gameweek 23 could be a turning point for Ange Postecoglou's boys as they welcome 19th-placed Leicester.

Meanwhile, the Reds have had a smooth journey. They are top of the Premier League rankings and six points above second-place Arsenal. With a favorable home tie against Ipswich and an additional match in Gameweek 24, this is the perfect opportunity to triple up on Liverpool assets.

With this in mind, FPL managers are advised to prioritize selecting attacking options from Tottenham or Liverpool for Gameweek 23.

According to goal projections, Liverpool and Tottenham are expected to produce 2.55 xG and 3.40 xG (expected goals) in their upcoming fixtures. Defensively, both teams are projected to earn clean sheets, with a 29 percent likelihood for Tottenham and 52 percent for Liverpool.

This week's recommended targets include any of Tottenham's Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

FPL Gameweek 23 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Joao Pedro against Everton, Erling Haaland at home to Chelsea, and Arsenal's Kai Havertz against Wolves present strong cases. However, my top two picks would be:

Mohamed Salah (£13.7m) - Liverpool

Mohamed Salah, who leads the FPL with 214 points and averages 10.2 points per match, rises to the top of our RotoBaller captain picks thanks to a favorable matchup against Ipswich at Anfield.

Averaging 0.87 goals per 90 minutes but failing to score in the last two matches, the 32-year-old will be eager to get back on the scoresheet this weekend.

Alexander Isak (£9.5m) - Newcastle

Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s leading scorer with 15 goals, has been in scintillating form, netting in eight consecutive matches before his streak ended last weekend.

With just one blank in his last eight gameweeks, the 25-year-old is poised to bounce back against relegation favorites Southampton, making him a strong candidate for the captain's armband.

FPL Challenge: Transfer Window Special

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The 22nd challenge, "Budget Picks," focused on selecting a team of five players with a budget limit of £25 million. This week's challenge concludes the final task of the Transfer Window Special series, and our goal is to help you maximize points for each task presented.

If you missed it, here is a recap of the FPL Challenge: Transfer Window Special event.

The Transfer Window Special is a three-gameweek run that tasks fantasy managers to show off their managerial skills with transfer-themed challenges in the January transfer window. This series covers three tests focusing on earning points through different players and play styles.

  • Gameweek 21: Legends - Players who have been at their club for 5+ seasons earn double points.
  • Gameweek 22: Restricted Budget: Make a team selection with a limited budget of £25 million.
  • Gameweek 23: Instant Impact - Players signed in the January transfer window earn double points.

Transfer Window Special FPL Challenge: Instant Impact - Players to Target

Week 23 of the FPL Challenge involves selecting a team of five players with an unlimited budget where new January additions earn double points. Here is a comprehensive list of the latest January signings and their FPL price reveal.

RotoBaller's top picks for this week's challenge are:

  • In goal, Antonin Kinsky is our top goalkeeper of the week. The Czech international is yet to keep a clean sheet in his first five games for Spurs. However, his 70 percent save percentage ratio displays his excellent shot-stopping abilities and is favored in goal for this week's task.
  • In defense, a double-up of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk is recommended, as these are solid defensive assets to rely on for potential clean sheets and attacking returns.
  • In midfield, Mohamed Salah makes our weekly team selection and takes the spotlight as our captain of the week.
  • For forwards, Alexander Isak completes the attack, rounding off our lineup in a 2-1-1 formation.

Remember, you are free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives that are not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
