Gameweek 13 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 13 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

A brace from Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and yet another blank from Man City's Erling Haaland defined the highs and lows of FPL highlights in Gameweek 12. Arsenal and Chelsea returned to winning ways, intensifying the competition for a top-four spot. But what surprises does Gameweek 13 have in store for us? Let's find out!

The FPL Challenge --- Goal Diggers series introduces this week's new task titled "Haaland or Salah?", where Liverpool and Man City players earn double points. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your points potential.

The Gameweek 13 deadline for the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Friday, November 29, at 1:30 p.m. EST, when Brighton and Southampton have a coastal battle. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 13 Tips

Home Advantage -- Target Liverpool and Brentford Attack

Liverpool can extend its lead to 11 points over title rivals Manchester City, who currently sit eight points adrift. Meanwhile, Brentford has scored an impressive 17 of its 22 goals at the Gtech Community Stadium and is set to host Leicester City next.

With this in mind, FPL managers are advised to prioritize bringing in attacking assets from Liverpool and Brentford for Gameweek 13. According to goal projections, Liverpool and Brentford are expected to produce 1.85 and 2.05 xG (expected goals), respectively, in their upcoming fixtures.

This week's recommended players for FPL returns include Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai, and Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo.

Sturdy Backline -- Invest in Nottingham Forest and Man United Defense

Nottingham Forest and Manchester United rank among the top five teams for clean sheets this season, with goalkeepers Mats Sels and André Onana making 33 saves each for their clubs.

Additionally, both clubs have been projected to earn clean sheets in their upcoming encounters, with a likelihood of 38% for Nottingham Forest and 40% for Man United.

If you are in search of a top defensive asset for your fantasy team, Gameweek 13 is a good chance to mix it up with Forest's Ola Aina or Man United's Diogo Dalot for potential attacking returns.

A Slice of  Seagulls' Pie: Brighton FPL Assets on the Rise

21 goals scored in its first 12 matches, keeping three clean sheets and level on points with Chelsea and Arsenal. Fabian Hürzeler has rejuvenated the Seagulls, who are now fifth in the Premier League table, and one point behind second-place Manchester City.

With no challenging fixtures against teams in the traditional top six, Brighton's FPL assets are shaping up to be must-haves for fantasy managers. Their favorable upcoming schedule makes them a tempting addition to your squad.

Joao Pedro appears to be the standout Brighton player to own, especially after amassing 23 FPL points in his last two outings. The Brazilian forward plays a pivotal role in both creating and scoring goals for the Seagulls, placing him top for projected goals ahead of Gameweek 13 with a possible 0.67 expected goals.

Nonetheless, adding more Brighton assets such as Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma, and Bart Verbruggen could be a smart move to strengthen your fantasy team.

Gameweek 13 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Bryan Mbeumo facing Leicester City, Son Heung-min at home to Fulham, and Chelsea's Cole Palmer against Aston Villa all present strong cases. However, my top two picks would be:

Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) - Liverpool

The Egyptian King tops the FPL rankings with 120 points, averaging 10 points per match and delivering 16 goal contributions (10 goals and six assists) for Liverpool in the Premier League.

With a record of 11 goals in his last 21 appearances against Manchester City and the Cityzens' winless run in their last six matches, Mo Salah emerges as the standout captain pick for Gameweek 13.

Matheus Cunha (£7m) - Wolves

Wolves talisman Matheus Cunha has scored 43 FPL points in his last four games, more than Erling Haaland, Ollie Watkins, and Kai Havertz combined in that time frame.

A home fixture against Bournemouth presents an ideal opportunity for fantasy managers to hand the captain’s armband to the in-form Brazilian, who is well-positioned to extend his streak with a fifth consecutive attacking return.

FPL Challenge: Goal Diggers

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The 12th challenge, "Economize," focused on selecting a team of seven players with a budget limit of £45m. This week, we have a new task, and our objective is to help you maximize points for each task presented.

In case you missed it, here's a summary of what to expect from the FPL Challenge: Goal Diggers event.

The Goal Diggers is a five-gameweek run that pushes fantasy managers to research bargain hunters and super savers. This series covers five tests focusing on earning points through different players and play styles.

  • Gameweek 12: Economize - The budget is set to only £45m.
  • Gameweek 13: Haaland or Salah? - Liverpool and Man City players earn double points.
  • Gameweek 14: Red Hot Deal - Man United players earn double points.
  • Gameweek 15: Big Spender - Players costing over £9m earn double points.
  • Gameweek 16: Bargains - Players costing under £6m earn double points.

Goal Diggers FPL Challenge: Haaland or Salah? - Players to Target

Week 13 of the FPL Challenge highlights selecting a team of five players with an unlimited budget. The task this week is to combine Liverpool and Manchester City players who are expected to achieve double points with other in-form FPL assets.

RotoBaller's top five picks for this week's Challenge are:

  • In goal, Mats Sels ranks third among goalkeepers with 52 points, boasting four clean sheets in the league, and has a strong likelihood of keeping a clean sheet against Ipswich.
  • In defense, Virgil van Dijk comes in as one of our Liverpool selections for the week. The Dutchman, known for his aerial prowess, could pose a significant goal threat from set-pieces against Manchester City.
  • In midfield, Mohamed Salah takes the spotlight. Given his impressive scoring record against the Cityzens, he earns the captain’s armband for this high-stake encounter.
  • For the forwards, Matheus Cunha and Joao Pedro complete the attack, forming a dynamic duo to round off our lineup in a 1-1-2 formation.

Note: Man City's players were ignored in our selections due to their poor form.

Feel free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives that are not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
