Jaxon Smith-Njigba fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 2 (2024). Should you start or sit Jaxon Smith-Njigba for fantasy football lineups?
BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR4/Deep League Flex Play
ANALYSIS: Smith-Njigba was one of the more popular sleepers coming into Week 1. Unfortunately, his first game was a complete disaster. Smith-Njigba only caught two passes for 19 yards on two targets. Many expected to see a larger passing output from Seattle under new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Neutral-situation pass rates from Week 1
- The Seahawks airing it out under Ryan Grubb did not come to pass
- The Chargers were indeed more run-heavy under Harbaugh
...but so were a lot of teams in Week 1. For context, only ATL and PIT averaged <55% neutral pass rate in 2023. pic.twitter.com/LIqmO8Nrwt

Seattle draws a road match-up with the New England Patriots in Week 2. The Patriots’ passing defense was surprisingly stout a week ago as they held Joe Burrow to 164 passing yards and Ja’Marr Chase to only 62 receiving yards. New England finished Week 1 seventh in defensive pass DVOA per FTN Fantasy and seventh in PFF’s Pass Coverage Grade.
This doesn’t appear to be the matchup Smith-Njigba gets rolling. We shouldn’t write him off completely after one game, but it was a concerning debut following a disappointing rookie year.
Outside of the deepest of leagues, Smith-Njigba should be benched until we see some signs of life.
