Welcome to the FPL Gameweek 2 rankings update, RotoBallers! Gameweek 1 is over, and our job as FPL managers is to try not to overreact. Yes, Alexander Isak was outscored by Mohamed Salah and Bukayo Saka, but Newcastle was down to 10 men for the final 60 minutes.

Context matters so much in FPL. It's highly advisable to watch at least the highlights of the matches to see if the eye test backs up the data. YouTube is a fantastic resource where every club puts out extended highlights of their games. Watch those, then check rankings to see if your eyes agree with the data.

The Gameweek 2 deadline of the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, August 24 at 6:00 a.m. EDT, when Brighton entertains Man United. Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek 2 Rankings

Our weekly rankings highlight players who could be worth a punt in your Fantasy Premier League squad. While the rankings will be filled with familiar names, a low-owned player with an easy fixture will rise on the charts.

For each gameweek, we will provide our top 15 goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards. These can also be applied as DFS rankings for your weekend contests.

 

FPL Gameweek 1 High Scorers

  • Goalkeeper: Nick Pope, Newcastle - 9 points
  • Defender: Pedro Porro, Spurs - 9 points
  • Midfielder: Mohamed Salah, Liverpool - 14 points
  • Forward: Kai Havertz, Arsenal & Danny Welbeck, Brighton - 12 points

 

FPL Goalkeepers - Gameweek 2 Rankings

  • After keeping a clean sheet on the road at Chelsea, things will be much easier for Man City and Ederson in Gameweek 2. The Citizens welcome Ipswich to the blue side of Manchester, where three points and a clean sheet should be the bare minimum on Saturday.
  • A 2-0 scoreline suggests an easy victory for Arsenal over Wolves, but it was far from it. David Raya had to make a couple of saves, including a spectacular against-his-own momentum stop in the first half. Aston Villa will be a tough test, and it will be interesting to see whether the Gunners can stifle Aston Villa on Saturday evening.
  • Friday update: The top six keepers have remained the same, but Dean Henderson has jumped from ninth to seventh. The Crystal Palace shot-stopper has a tricky task versus West Ham, but the Eagles were the fourth-best defense once Oliver Glasner took over last season.

FPL Defenders - Gameweek 2 Rankings

  • In Saturday's 2-0 road win over Ipswich, Trent Alexander-Arnold was magical for Liverpool. It's still incredible that he didn't walk away with an assist after laying chances on silver platters for Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. Still, the English defender will be in a hurry to make amends against Brentford to end Gameweek 2.
  • If you're an FPL manager looking to buy a £4.5M defender, look no further than Antonee Robinson. The American fullback was marauding down the left flank versus Man United on Friday night and will have plenty of space to exploit a leaky Leicester defense when the Foxes visit Craven Cottage.
  • Friday update: With Everton struggling to field a fit defense, Spurs will fire on all cylinders. Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro (if healthy) should have massive games against the Toffees.

FPL Midfielders - Gameweek 2 Rankings

  • Sometimes, the projections take a minute to catch up with reality early in the season, but the alarm bells are ringing in my head for Son Heung-min. The South Korean was barely involved in the Spurs attack against Leicester on Monday evening, and I would flip him to Bukayo Saka or Cole Palmer as quickly as possible.
  • Is Bruno Fernandes unlucky or just a bad finisher? It's starting to feel like the latter. The Portuguese midfielder created 1.22 xGI on Friday night versus Fulham but came away with zero returns. It's not a great start for a player who underperformed his expected data over the previous two seasons.
  • Friday update: Phil Foden's minute projection has taken a huge boost since Tuesday, and he is the No. 2 midfielder behind Mohamed Salah. FPL managers shouldn't expect 90 minutes, but a couple of attacking returns are on the table versus Ipswich.

FPL Forwards - Gameweek 2 Rankings

  • If you don't have Erling Haaland in your FPL team this weekend, it would be an excellent time to get some back-to-school shopping done. The Norwegian's projection is 1.07 points more than the next highest player (Mohamed Salah) and is a viable Triple Captain chip option against the Tractor Boys.
  • Brighton looked very strong against Everton in Gameweek 1. All the attacking options, including Danny Welbeck, should be worth a shout. He's in 2.5 percent of FPL squads but had a beautiful finish in Saturday's match and played the full 90 minutes.
  • Friday update: Jamie Vardy was outside the top 15 when the rankings first ran on Tuesday, and now he's a top 10 play. The veteran forward has a great chance (32 percent) of scoring his 138th Premier League goal at Craven Cottage this weekend.
