Is Jasson Dominguez a fantasy baseball waiver wire stash? Jarod discusses the fantasy baseball outlook for re-draft leagues for the rest of the 2024 season.
Back in 2019, the New York Yankees used most of their international bonus pool money to sign Jasson Dominguez for $5.1 million as a 16-year-old due to his potential to be a five-tool player.
Dominguez methodically moved his way through the organization, culminating in his big league debut in 2023, where he impressed during his short time there, slashing .258/.303/.677 in an 8-game cameo before an elbow injury forced Tommy John surgery.
The 21-year-old was fully recovered in June and began immediately began pushing his way towards the majors, producing and progressing from Single-A, to Double-A, then finally to Triple-A before an oblique injury sidelined him for a month.
Now fully recovered from that injury, it is time to start looking at when we'll see him in pinstripes once again.
How High Is Jasson Dominguez's Fantasy Potential?
Scouts have raved about Dominguez's tools for years now. Some say the sky is the limit for the switch-hitter, even being compared to some of the greats of the game, but even if those lofty expectations do not come to pass, he should still become a very productive fantasy asset.
Think a 30/30-type player based on his power and speed attributes. In 2022, the Dominican hit 16 home runs and stole 37 bases as a 19-year-old. Then, in 2023, he hit 15 home runs and stole 40 bags as a 20-year-old.
In his 8-game stint in the majors, "the Martian" belted a double and four home runs, plus he swiped a bag to boot. As he matures he should only get better, so the future certainly looks bright.

When Might Jasson Dominguez Get A Major-League Opportunity?
This question has gotten more and more complicated as the season has progressed. The additions of Alex Verdugo, Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and more recently Jazz Chisholm Jr. to an outfield that already includes Aaron Judge made Dominguez's path to playing time unclear.
Dominguez may have forced the issue when he was knocking the cover off of the ball earlier this season, slashing .356/.404/.609 with six home runs over the first 23 games after his return from Tommy John.
But the oblique injury put his push to the majors on pause, and since his return from that injury, the slugger is slashing .219/.315/.297 with just one home run over 17 games.

If Dominguez gets hot again, it would thrust his name back into the conversation, and the calls would certainly grow louder if someone went on a massive cold stretch (Verdugo is slashing .192/.267/.250 in August). And of course, all it takes is one injury and the door would open further.
But even Yankees GM Brian Cashman has said there is no place to put him right now. Regardless, it seems it would behoove the Yankees to get him on the big league roster as they head into the postseason, as a hitter of his caliber and with his speed would surely be an asset in crunch time.

He may be the only "must-stash" prospect at this point in the fantasy season because he can be an impact player in a potent lineup that may get the call next week for all we know**, which for fantasy would be perfect timing for those competing for the playoffs.
It may also happen all too late for us fantasy managers, but for those with a roster spot to spare, Dominguez is available in almost 75% of Yahoo leagues for the stashing.
**Update! Jasson Dominguez will be called up Sunday as the 27th man for the Yankees' Little League Classic game, although he'll likely be optioned back to Triple-A afterward.
