Points League Pitchers: Fantasy Baseball H2H Waiver Wire Pickups for the Second Half (2024)

Jameson Taillon - Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers, Pitcher Rankings

Wade's fantasy baseball H2H points league waiver wire pitchers to pickup for Week 16 (2024), July 8-July 14. Free agent starting pitchers to add in H2H points leagues.

Welcome, RotoBallers, to a special edition of Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers for H2H Points Leagues. Normally, these articles cover the upcoming week. Since it's the All-Star Break, we'll spotlight pitchers who can bolster your squad for the entire second half.

We have a weekly points-league roundup, here at RotoBaller. In head-t0-head format, player values are often drastically different depending on the platform. As a result, we highlight those fit to succeed regardless of the format. Each pitcher is rostered in around half of ESPN and/or Yahoo leagues.

Check out our other waiver-wire-pickup articles, if you're looking for hitters. Now, let's get into this week's top options.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Tobias Myers, Milwaukee Brewers

Yahoo: 45%; ESPN: 15%

Before this season, Myers was known solely as the player traded from the Rays to the Guardians in return for Junior Caminero. And while he may not have the same prospect pedigree as Caminero, Myers has flown under the radar this season. The 25-year-old rookie has thrown 72 innings, posting a 3.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 62:20 K/BB. In an organization known for developing young pitchers, he's yet another great rookie to come out of the Brewers' system.

Myers has performed well enough to warrant consideration, heading into the second half. It's worth noting that his fastball has slightly overperformed, but he's still an intriguing option nonetheless.

Simeon Woods Richardson, Minnesota Twins

Yahoo: 20%; ESPN: 10%

Woods Richardson is another rookie pitcher who's performed well to start his career. Through 82 innings, he's got a 3.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and and a 71:26 K/BB. While these stats are certainly impressive, a few things have held him back from breaking into the next tier of weekly H2H pitchers. He hasn't completed six innings in five of his 16 starts, and he doesn't have the strikeout upside to remedy the low innings count. However, if he starts finding a way to get deeper into starts, there's a lot to like here. Maybe don't add him right away, but definitely keep him on your radar.

Jameson Taillon, Chicago Cubs

Yahoo: 52%; ESPN: 21%

From two rookies to a seasoned veteran, Taillon has looked sharp in 2024. Through 87 1/3 innings, he's got a 2.99 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 72:18 K/BB. Basically, he's been another version of Simeon Woods Richardson, but he's consistently completing six innings. This makes sense; one is a young up-and-comer, and the other has been in the league since 2016.

Taillon has been a quality-start machine, that should deliver a high-floor/mid-ceiling second-half performance. He probably won't carry your team when he's not a two-start pitcher, but he has what it takes to consistently score points. He's a solid add with lots of reliability.

Drew Thorpe, Chicago White Sox

Yahoo: 25%; ESPN: 10%

Now that we've covered a grizzled veterans, let's return to the exciting young rookies. Since his big-league promotion, Thorpe has been solid for Chicago. Through 32 2/3 innings, he's got a 3.58 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 19:15 K/BB.

What holds Thorpe back from being a more sought-after pitcher is his lack of command (despite having a nasty repertoire), along with the fact that he likely won't get many wins on the White Sox. Still, he's been great at limiting hits, and it looks like he can eat innings. He's completed at least six frames in each of his last four starts. If his command improves in the second half, we could look back and wish we'd gotten him at the All-Star Break.
