Is Stefon Diggs Still A Fantasy Football WR1 With The Houston Texans? 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

With Stefon Diggs joining the Houston Texans for the 2024 NFL season, will he still deliver the numbers that makes him worthy of being a WR1 in fantasy football?

There's no denying Stefon Diggs' skills as an NFL wide receiver. In addition to being a four-time Pro Bowler, he was a First Team All-Pro member in 2020 and Second Team All-Pro two years later.

He's had six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons dating back to his penultimate season with the Minnesota Vikings (2018). The wideout had at least eight touchdown catches in his four seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

Therefore, the Houston Texans will get a high-caliber player after trading for Diggs in April 2024. But does the change in environment alter the expectations for the former Maryland standout?

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! Stefon Diggs Will Line Up with a Crowded WR Room

Diggs still has it, as proven by his 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023. More importantly, he missed only one game throughout his Buffalo stint.

However, he must embrace a different role with the Texans. He was Josh Allen's main target with the Bills, but he will share the load with young but talented wideouts Nico Collins and Tank Dell in Houston.

C.J. Stroud will have the enviable task of having these three receivers look for the ball. The challenge of covering all three receivers should create a mismatch or an advantage somewhere on the field.

If everything goes well, the Texans should have no problems returning to the playoffs despite having one of the toughest schedules in 2024. Diggs' veteran presence should also help Collins and Dell remain composed when grinding it against legitimate playoff contenders.

Diggs Will Be a High-End WR2 for the Texans

While Diggs is still a productive player with plenty of fantasy football upside, those interested in drafting him must have realistic expectations.

Collins will likely be the Texans' primary receiver after agreeing to a three-year, $72.75 million contract extension. The $24.25 million average per year is the eighth-highest in his position. With his money secured, the Texans expect him to maintain or improve from his breakout season (80 receptions, 1,297 yards, eight touchdowns).

As for Diggs, he could be what Jaylen Waddle is with the Miami Dolphins. He will still be highly productive but must take a back seat to Collins (and even Dell).

While they had comparable stats last season, Collins' output is more encouraging than what Diggs delivered. Collins needed only 80 receptions to collect nearly 1,300 yards, averaging 16.2 yards per catch. He finished sixth in yards after the catch among wide receivers (549).

Meanwhile, Diggs had fewer yards despite ranking seventh in receptions. It's also alarming that his production dropped after Buffalo's Week 6 game against the New York Giants. After reaching 100 yards in five of his first six games, he never went above 87 yards moving forward.

Worst yet, he only had three touchdowns in their final 13 games (including playoffs). Diggs had ten receptions for 73 yards in two postseason games.

Converting his extension to a one-year deal should entice Diggs to finish stronger. Luckily for him, he won't carry the heaviest burden on offense because of the talented unit surrounding Stroud. From a fantasy football perspective, he's projected as a mid-range WR2.
