Should I Draft Odell Beckham Jr. in 2024 Fantasy Football?

Odell-Beckham-Jr-Fantasy-Football-Rankings-Draft-Sleepers-Waiver-Wire-Pickups-icon-rotoballer

Should you draft Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in 2024 fantasy football leagues? Read the fantasy football outlook for Odell Beckham Jr. in 2024.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. signed a one-year, $3 million contract to play for the Miami Dolphins in 2024. He can earn up to $5.25 million after achieving specific performance-based incentives.

The Dolphins will be his third team in four seasons. He did not play in 2022 after suffering what turned out to be an ACL tear in Super Bowl LVI. Beckham will join a team that last won a playoff game in 2000. While the Dolphins have been in back-to-back postseasons under coach Mike McDaniel, they haven't gone past the Wild Card round.

Playing under a different system could boost Beckham's performance compared to last year's output. But should that be enough to consider him for your fantasy football roster?

Beckham Isn't a Top-Flight Wide Receiver Anymore

Earlier in his career, Beckham had five 1,000-yard seasons in six years, which resulted in two second-team All-Pro and three Pro Bowl selections.

Unfortunately, he hasn't been the same dominant wideout after his first ACL injury in 2020 while playing for the Cleveland Browns. A year later, he had 44 receptions for 537 yards and five touchdowns in 14 regular-season games for the Browns and the Los Angeles Rams.

He came alive in the playoffs with 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games. While he did win the Super Bowl with the Rams, he did not finish the game after incurring an injury in the second quarter.

Beckham made his NFL return by signing a one-year contract worth up to $15 million with the Baltimore Ravens. However, his numbers for 2023 (35 receptions, 565 yards, three touchdowns) are comparable to what he delivered in 2021.

These numbers could be the trend for Beckham moving forward. Therefore, fantasy football managers must temper their expectations of him.

Draft Odell Beckham Jr. as a WR3 in Fantasy Football

Beckham can still have the occasional big game, as proven by his 116-yard game in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals and his 97-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 14 versus the Rams last season.

However, he will play for a team wherein he won't even be the second-best receiver. Tyreek Hill completed his second consecutive 1,700-yard season, while Jaylen Waddle had 1,000-yard seasons in his first three years. The Dolphins have invested in Waddle, giving him a three-year, $84.75 million extension.

Hill and Waddle will get the initial reads from Tua Tagovailoa. Typically, one would be open if the defense puts extra men on the other. They would have the lion's share of receptions and receiving yards throughout the season.

While Beckham adds another dimension to their offense, it might not translate to increased production. Therefore, consider adding him to your fantasy football squad if you have selected at least three or four wideouts who can deliver better numbers than him.
