Fantasy Baseball Deep League Waiver Wire Adds - Paul DeJong, Owen Miller, Kyle Farmer, Mickey Moniak, Jeimer Candelario

Paul DeJong - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Deep league fantasy baseball sleeper hitters who are waiver wire pickups. Paul DeJong, Owen Miller, Kyle Farmer, Mickey Moniak and Jeimer Candelario are surging.

This article will discuss fantasy baseball deep league waiver wire hitters that are undervalued and under-rostered going into Week 10 of the season. Whether your team is injury-riddled or you’re ready to give up on underachieving players, we’ve got you covered.

As we move through the season, our data is ever-changing and we have to learn to react in real time. When it comes to hot streaks, you have to act fast or you may miss out. This set of players may not have the longest track record or their production could be looked at as unsustainable. However, you have to take risks in deeper league formats in order to find your breakout stars for the remainder of the season.

These players are worth a shot in deeper formats while running hot if you can fit them into your lineups. Players listed are in order of roster percentage, not confidence ranking. Position eligibility and roster percentage are based on Yahoo!, so be sure to check your leagues for availability!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Paul DeJong, SS - St. Louis Cardinals

28% Rostered

Paul DeJong opened the 2023 season on the Cardinals' injured list with a back issue but homered in his season debut for the big-league club on April 23. DeJong had a rough year in 2022, bouncing between the minors and majors, totaling just six home runs in 77 games. He’s already surpassed that total in 24 games this year, submerging his hot bat in the back half of the Cardinals lineup.

DeJong is hitting .267 with six home runs, 14 RBI, and two stolen bases in the month of May. He has flashed upside to back up this recent hot streak in previous seasons, finishing second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2017 and making an All-Star appearance in 2019. He finished with 25-plus home runs in each of those seasons and could be on track again if continues to see consistent playing time.

Owen Miller, 1B/2B/3B - Milwaukee Brewers

14% Rostered

Owen Miller may carry limited upside but he’s past the point of being ignored in deeper league formats. On the year, Miller is hitting .330 through 32 games, which would be good for fourth in the league if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. The Brewers have started Miller all around the diamond and he’s led off six out of the last 11 games for the club.

Miller is eligible at 1B, 2B, and 3B on Yahoo! and needs just one more start to pick up OF eligibility. Through 15 May games, Miller is hitting .377 with two home runs and five RBI while sporting a career-best 15.7 percent strikeout rate. Miller could provide relief to the injury-riddled Brewers lineup in the short term and help your fantasy team in batting average for the time being.

Kyle Farmer, 3B/SS - Minnesota Twins

12% Rostered

Most of Kyle Farmer’s starts this year have come at third base but he could be an option to slide over to second base while Jorge Polanco recovers from a hamstring injury. Royce Lewis is completing a rehab assignment at Triple-A and projects to play third base at the major league level. Farmer will have to stay hot and play his way into the lineup once the Twins starters return but he’s been one of their most productive hitters to start 2023.

In 12 games since being activated from the injured list on May 10, Farmer has hit .348 with two home runs and nine RBI. Farmer was unfortunately hit in the face with a pitch on April 12 but thankfully avoided major injury. He’s since hit in the heart of a productive Twins lineup while putting together four multi-hit games in that stretch.

Mickey Moniak, OF - Los Angeles Angels

15% Rostered

Mickey Moniak seems to have taken over the left field job amidst Taylor Ward’s slump at the plate. Moniak has led off for the Halos in consecutive games and in seven out of the last 10 games. Moniak found early success with the Angels in 2023 after the Phillies selected him in the 2016 Draft as the first overall pick out of high school, just 100 miles south of Los Angeles.

In nine games played, Moniak is hitting .429 with three home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases out of the leadoff spot. The Angels have been looking for a boost out of the leadoff spot, hitting in front of two of the most electric hitters in the game, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Similar to Taylor Ward finding his stride out of the same spot last year, Moniak is looking to do the same. If he sticks, Moniak could prove to be a major contributor in runs scored and stolen bases as he currently ranks in the 90th percentile in sprint speed, according to Statcast.

Jeimer Candelario, 3B - Washington Nationals

10% Rostered

Jeimer Candelario has proven to be a decent signing by a middling Washington Nationals franchise during the offseason. Since Anthony Rendon left in free agency following the 2019 World Series, the team has struggled to find consistency at the hot corner. Candelario has been reliable this season after never quite finding his footing during his Detroit Tigers tenure.

Candelario has hit .318 in May with two home runs and five RBI, including six multi-hit games in the past seven days. The team has trusted him to bat in the top half of the lineup for the majority of the season and he’s given them no reason to stop that trend now. Candelario is sporting career-best marks in terms of his 18.8 percent strikeout rate, 21.7 whiff percentage, and 85.3 zone contact percentage.
