Which Team Could Pick Jahmyr Gibbs in the 2023 NFL Draft?

Jahmyr Gibbs - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Rookies, Draft Sleepers

Which Team Could Pick Jahmyr Gibbs In The 2023 NFL Draft? What Round Will Jahmyr Gibbs Be Drafted? Read the 2023 NFL Draft outlook.

Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft kicks off two weeks from tomorrow. The mock drafts are flying along with the speculation and rumors heating up around various teams and prospects.

One of the most intriguing prospects for the purpose of fantasy football is former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs began his career at Georgia Tech and showed versatility and explosiveness from day 1.

While it is rare for running backs to go in Round 1 these days, fellow running back Bijan Robinson is almost a surefire Day 1 selection. Gibbs teeters between Day 1 and Day 2 and it remains to be seen if a team falls in love with his talent enough to select him in the first, but there is a real possibility that he joins Robinson in the first round.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

What Did Jahmyr Gibbs Do In His College Career?

Gibbs committed to Georgia Tech out of high school as a 4-star prospect. He got on the field immediately for the Yellow Jackets, rushing for 460 yards and four touchdowns with 303 receiving yards and three scores through the air in the shortened 2020 season.

He followed up with a strong 2021 season that saw him enter the transfer portal as the top running back prospect, quickly joining Alabama following Brian Robinson Jr.’s departure to form a thunder-and-lightning duo with Jase McClellan.

While Gibbs’ numbers were inconsistent on a game-by-game basis, he ended the season with 926 rushing yards and seven touchdowns along with 444 yards through the air and an additional three receiving touchdowns. He continually stepped up when given opportunities in big games, highlighted by a 151 all-purpose yard, three touchdown game in the instant classic loss against Tennessee.

Watch the film. Gibbs has elite elusiveness, and some scouts believe that he will be the best pass-catching back in the league the second he is drafted.

Gibbs considers himself a “mixture of Christian McCaffrey and Jamaal Charles,” and many scouts have compared him to another pass-catching running back who played at Alabama: Alvin Kamara.

Some analysts question his size and wonder if he can be a three-down back or if he will be limited to a pass-catching role, but regardless of role Gibbs should see plenty of action in Year 1.

Which Team Could Pick Jahmyr Gibbs In The 2023 NFL Draft?

Gibbs could be scooped up by practically any team in the league given that he has a wide range of landing positions within the draft. He could be grabbed at the end of Round 1 as a luxury addition on a competing team, or he could end up in Round 2 or even Round 3 if teams face concerns regarding his size. We have seen running backs struggle to come off the board in past drafts, but a draft day slide with talents like Robinson and Gibbs on the board seems unlikely.

Gibbs visited Tampa Bay today as one of their Top 30 visits.

The Buccaneers released incumbent starter Leonard Fournette earlier this offseason and are left with a combination of second-year back Rachaad White and veteran pass catcher Chase Edmonds in the backfield. White is expected to be the lead back but would form a scary duo if paired with Gibbs.

The Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys are both intriguing landing spots for Gibbs, given that Ezekiel Elliott has been released and Joe Mixon could very well follow suit. Gibbs and Tony Pollard offer a similar running style but the Dallas backfield lacks depth. Cincinnati also lost depth when Samaje Perine signed with the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason.

Speaking of luxury picks, the Philadelphia Eagles would be a very intriguing landing spot for Gibbs.

The defending NFC champions pick 30th in the draft and currently have Rashaad Penny, Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Trey Sermon on the roster at running back. Gibbs would immediately slot in as an elite pass-catcher out of the backfield and could form a scary duo with Penny.

While Tampa, Cincinnati, Dallas, and Philadelphia all seem like fun landing spots for Gibbs, he could truly end up anywhere. Fantasy managers will be left speculating where he could land up until draft day.
