Will Jakobi Meyers Be Released By The Patriots?

Jakobi Meyers - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Is Jakobi Meyers a free agent in 2023? Which teams could possibly sign Meyers? Read the 2023 NFL offseason outlook.

The New England Patriots were not a good offensive football team in 2022. They were missing playmakers and solid coaching and lacked a creative approach on that side of the ball. They averaged only 314 yards per game, which was the seventh-worst in the NFL.

Second-year quarterback Mac Jones regressed in his sophomore campaign, but much of that blame can be aimed at those that surrounded him. However, one bright spot for the New England offense was a wide receiver by the name of Jakobi Meyers.

The question being asked is if Meyers will be released by the Patriots this offseason or re-signed. Let's take a look at the rumors and reports to try and find the answer.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Is Jakobi Meyers A Free Agent in 2023?

After signing a one-year contract worth just under four million dollars in June of 2022, the Patriots wideout is now a free agent heading into the offseason. His services will be in high demand, either with his current team or with a new organization in need of a talented young receiver with a bright future.

The 26-year-old from Lithonia, Georgia finished the regular season with 67 receptions for 804 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. He did miss three games due to injury, but he was without question the Patriots' most consistent pass catcher. Perhaps just as important was that Meyers was his quarterback's favorite target all season long.

He has averaged 111 targets per season from Jones the past two years and was his clear security blanket.  Former New England signal caller and the greatest of all time, Tom Brady, had Julian Edelman as his binky for much of his tenure in Foxboro. The current Patriots QB has number 16 operating in the same role, and he hopes he has him for years to come.

Which Team Will Sign Meyers In The Offseason?

Completing his fourth season with the team, the former North Carolina State University product is hitting the market and is on the verge of a healthy payday.

The unknown for Pats fans and fantasy owners who love Meyers is whether or not the team will open up their checkbook and make his signing a priority. Owner Robert Kraft has historically not been one to hand out large contracts. With that said, the team needs to make a move at the receiver position in order to improve an inefficient passing attack and must decide to whom they will allocate those dollars.

According to Pro Football Focus, Meyers is the seventh-best receiver on the market, and someone other teams have their eye on. Which team that is is anyone's guess; however, one thing we do know is that he will be productive wherever he lands. The 6' 2,'' 200-pound wideout is in a great position heading into free agency, and sooner rather than later, he will become a very rich man.
