Is Aaron Rodgers Retiring?
The man who calls Lambeau Field home for one of the most storied franchises in sports has had an illustrious career. He has won four NFL MVP awards, has been selected to 10 Pro Bowls, and is a Super Bowl champion.
His greatness is unquestioned, but father time may be catching up to the 39-year-old. The Packers did not make the playoffs this season, Rodgers did not have a good season, and questions are flying as to whether he will continue his playing career.
With Green Bay being eliminated less than two weeks ago, there is still plenty of time for arguably the greatest Packer of all time to make his decision. But since the world moves quickly in 2023 and social media drives speculation, the answer may come sooner rather than later.
Will Aaron Rodgers Play For The Packers Or A New Team in 2023?
On Tuesday, Rodgers made his first public comments about his future on the well-known Pat McAfee show.
These comments don't sound like a man who is ready to throw in the towel. During his appearance on the program, he said he's "not emotionally or mentally ready" to make decisions about his future.
He also went on to raise speculation as to whether he would return to Green Bay or decide to play elsewhere if he does not retire. Leaving every option open, Rodgers said: "I think I can win MVP again in the right situation. Is that Green Bay or somewhere else? I'm not sure. But I don't think you should shut down any opportunity."
Is Aaron Rodger's Career Over?
The only person who knows the answer to that question is the man himself, and even he may not know. From his comments this week, however, one could certainly make the educated guess that he's not quite ready to hit the golf course full-time.
In 2022, Rodgers had his worst statistical campaign since 2017, throwing for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns with 12 interceptions (his most since 2008). But the always confident future Hall of Famer says he can still be elite.
It's clear he wants no part of a rebuild in Green Bay but thinks he could still be the MVP on a contender in the "right situation." Does that sound like a man who is ready to retire? No, it sure doesn't.
