Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for your PGA DFS research. This week we'll dig into the FanDuel PGA DFS slate for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club.
In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic - PGA DFS Overview
The Course: Detroit Golf Club
Par 72 - 7,370 Yards, Greens: Bent/Poa Blend, Designed By: Donald Ross
Before its PGA Tour debut a few years ago, we were all basically guessing as to how this layout by legendary architect Donald Ross would play. The answer is...pretty darn easy, as the pros basically have no trouble at all with Detroit Golf Club, with the first three editions of the Rocket Mortgage producing an average winning score of 22-under par.
It might not be fair to call this layout "cookie-cutter", but that's the impression that I've walked away with after each edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, as the event is the definition of a straightforward birdie fest.
There are no secrets at DGC (other than a couple of sneaky OB areas)...score on the four Par-5s, strike your irons well, and make putts. As a result, I'll be targeting players this week that have strong approach games, great Par-5 scoring ability, and can rack up birdies in bunches.
I never give much weight to putting stats, but I will at least glance at some Poa numbers this week, as players will need to make some putts to go low and these greens are comprised of a Poa/Bent surface.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Patrick Cantlay ($12,000)
Despite the lack of course history at Detroit GC, it's tough to argue with Patrick Cantlay's position atop the FanDuel salary scale this week. While Cantlay hasn't actually found the winner's circle yet in 2022, he's been oh-so-close on multiple occasions, losing in playoffs at the Waste Management & RBC Heritage.
In addition to those outings, the Californian has logged an additional eight top-15 finishes this year and has rightly earned the label of one of the PGA Tour's most consistent performers outside of the major championships. With all due respect to the Rocket Mortgage, it ain't no major, and this week's field is the type that Cantlay has the ability to dominate if things are clicking.
Cameron Young ($11,700)
The long-hitting rookie continues to impress, with a runner-up at the Open Championship being his most recent accomplishment.
This will mark Young's Rocket Mortgage debut, but the New Yorker's power off the tee (fifth in field Driving Distance L24), consistent ball-striking (seventh SG: Ball Striking L24), and ability to rack up birdies in bunches (first Birdies or Better Gained L24) give him a leg up on any course on the schedule.
We saw Bryson DeChambeau and Matthew Wolff turn this golf course into a pitch-and-putt back in 2020, and Young has the skill set needed to accomplish the same feat this year.
Cam Davis ($11,100)
I generally try to avoid defending champions, as it's pretty obvious they can play well in the respective event. However, Cam Davis is an interesting case study as he prepares to defend his Rocket Mortgage title.
The talented Aussie comes into the week in white-hot form on the heels of top-eight finishes in three of his last six starts. He's gained over four strokes on Approach in each of his last two measured starts while grading out third in the field in both SG: Ball Striking and DFS points scored over his last 12 rounds.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Kevin Kisner ($10,700)
The light-hitting veteran isn't a horse for every course, but he's proven his worth at Detroit Golf Club by amassing a 68.50 scoring average and posting a pair of top-10s across his three career Rocket Mortgage starts.
2022 has been a rather forgettable year for the Kiz, however, the veteran's game has been trending up recently as he heads into a spot on the schedule where he's traditionally thrived.
Kisner comes into the week on the heels of strong outings in both the Open Championship (T21) and Travelers (T6). He's now gained a combined 15.8 strokes total over his last two starts.
Chris Kirk ($10,000)
The UGA product has been money in previous Rocket Mortgage starts with a T21 in 2020 followed by a T12 in last year's edition.
Kirk has scored four top-10 finishes in 2022 and his success this year can be traced to his proficiency in all facets of the game - he ranks eighth in this week's field in SG: T2G over his last 24 rounds - and the rather simplistic notion of consistently hitting fairways (ninth in field Good Drives Gained) and greens (35th GIRs).
He's not flashy but has consistently been getting the job done this year and in prior trips to Detroit Golf Club.
Troy Merritt ($9,700)
A T49 last week in Minnesota might not appear to be anything to get excited about, but Merritt's ball-striking was crisp, as he gained seven strokes T2G and was hampered by an ice-cold putter at the 3M Open.
I'm willing to gamble on the flatstick heating up this week in an event where he's historically thrived. The 36-year-old has gained a combined 18.6 strokes total across his last two trips to Detroit Golf Club and accrued an eye-opening 68.70 scoring average across his three career Rocket Mortgage starts.
Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players
Chris Gotterup ($9,600) & Joohyung "Tom" Kim ($9,500)
Putting these two rising stars together, as they have such similar narratives. Gotterup is the reigning Haskins Award winner and has made the transition from college golf to the PGA Tour look smooth by posting a pair of top-10 finishes in just seven starts on the Tour.
Kim has found similar success, as strong outings in the U.S., Scottish, and British Opens have paved the way for a special temporary member exemption on the PGA Tour for the South Korean. Both are talented, both are explosive, and both contain legitimate tournament-winning upside.
Scott Stallings ($9,500)
My East Tennessee homeboy has been ballin' out recently. He heads to Detroit off strong finishes in both the Travelers (T8) and John Deere (T4). He's a streaky player that has everything clicking at the moment. Stallings has gained a combined 15.6 strokes T2G over his last two starts.
He brings that form to a Ross layout on which he's never missed a cut in three career appearances and has shown incremental improvement in each edition of the Rocket Mortgage, culminating with a T25 last year.
