Week 4 Fantasy Football Running Back Outlooks

Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry noted on Wednesday via the team's official site that he's focused on improving his ball security after a string of recent fumbles. "I don't try to harp on it too much," said the 31-year-old. "At the same time, it's a problem that's got to be fixed. I'm working on it as hard as I can to get this issue resolved." Through nine seasons, Henry had only ever fumbled more than three times twice, matching the number of times he's lost more than two of them.

While it's undoubtedly concerning, fantasy managers do not need to worry about this issue in the long term, as the former second-round pick is working to rectify it. Despite two down weeks, he's firmly on the RB1 radar ahead of his matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.

Trey Benson, Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson will be thrown into the starting spot after a very unfortunate injury to James Conner (ankle) in Week 3. They already started to split more of the touches through three weeks than they did all last season, so this starting opportunity shouldn't be as much of a "shock to the system." In PPR formats, Benson averaged around 8.3 fantasy points per game through three weeks, which put him at RB34. He was quite efficient with the smaller workload, registering 6.0 yards per attempt.

He even received 11 targets compared to six targets all of last year. The tough part is that the Seattle Seahawks are currently ranked as the seventh-toughest defense against the run and have given up the second-fewest points of any defense in the league. Benson's ceiling right now is a mid-level RB2, especially in PPR leagues.

Bhayshul Tuten, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in the first practice of the week on Wednesday. Tuten was also limited during practice last week with a shoulder injury, but he ended up playing in the Week 3 win over the Houston Texans and went for 21 rushing yards and his first NFL rushing touchdown on six carries.

He failed to catch his only target. The 23-year-old wasn't as efficient as he was in the Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but he was able to find the end zone for the second straight week as the change-of-pace back behind Travis Etienne Jr. Barring a setback with his shoulder, Tuten should be fine to suit up for a Week 4 meeting against a San Francisco 49ers defense that just lost Nick Bosa (knee) for the year. Consider Tuten an upside RB3/flex play this weekend.

Tyrone Tracy Jr., New York Giants

Unsurprisingly, New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) was unable to practice on Wednesday as the team began preparing for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com. Tracy dislocated his shoulder in the Sunday night loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter and is expected to miss two to four weeks, so it's only a matter of time before he's ruled out this week. Rookie Cam Skattebo looked good in a lead-back role in Week 3 and will serve as the team's RB1 going forward as the Giants move to rookie first-rounder Jaxson Dart as their starting quarterback.

Behind Skattebo, Devin Singletary will be in line for a bigger role as well as the RB2, although he won't have much standalone fantasy appeal. Skattebo should be rostered in all fantasy leagues now and is firmly in flex territory in Week 4 against L.A.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt's knee injury is not considered serious, a source told Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. Jhabvala added that she shouldn't be surprised if Croskey-Merritt practices on Thursday after he did not take the field on Wednesday. The 24-year-old had 10 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut in Week 1, but he's combined for only 12 carries for 33 yards and a score over the last two games, including only eight carries for 26 yards in the Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in the first game without Austin Ekeler (Achilles).

JCM should lead Washington's backfield when all is said and done in 2025, with Ekeler done for the season, but he's going to share the load with Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Jeremy McNichols. Line Croskey-Merritt up as an RB3/flex in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons.
