When Is Andrew Painter Getting Called Up? Fantasy Baseball Prospect Outlook (Week 17 Update)

Andrew Painter Prospects Graphic

When is Andrew Painter getting called up? Will Painter get promoted in July 2025? Read about this top fantasy baseball prospect outlook heading into Week 17.

Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Painter has been slowly working his way back from Tommy John and is nearing his MLB debut.

Earlier in the season, Phillies manager Rob Thomson noted that Painter should be in the mix to join the MLB club later in July. However, he has continued to show growing pains at Triple-A, which could delay his promotion.

Should fantasy managers continue to stash Painter on their bench? When should fantasy managers expect him to get the call? Let's dive in!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Andrew Painter Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

In his most recent outing, the top prospect in Philadelphia tossed five innings of three-run ball with six hits and four strikeouts against Syracuse. While he did not allow any walks in this game, he allowed two long balls. Over his last three starts, Painter has logged at least five innings in each game, but has posted a hefty 7.04 ERA.

Prior to this recent skid, Painter was showing signs of significant growth at Lehigh Valley, posting an elite 2.51 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, with a 16:7 K:BB over his last 14 1/3 innings of work (three starts).

While his box score has not been overly impressive, seeing Painter continue to increase his workload while maintaining his strikeout upside is a great sign for his second-half outlook.

Andrew Painter Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

While Painter has struggled at times during his first look at Triple-A, it is very promising to see the right-hander continue to increase his pitch count despite his extensive injury history. If Painter can continue to pitch at least five innings in each start, he could be in the mix to join Philadelphia in the near future.

With Aaron Nola (ankle) on the 60-day injured list and not making much progress, and Mick Abel being optioned back to Triple-A, Painter has a clear path to claim the final spot in the rotation during the stretch run.

Given his strikeout upside, he is worth stashing in all standard leagues heading into Week 17. For the time being, Taijuan Walker has shifted into the No. 5 role in the rotation but has struggled at times throughout the first half.
