Two-Start Pitcher Streamers: Fantasy Baseball SP Pickups and Starts (July 17 - July 23)

Bryan Woo - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Starting pitcher two-start streamers for Week 17 (2023). Fantasy baseball SP waiver wire pickups for pitchers with two starts scheduled in the week ahead.

Welcome back to our Two-Start Pitcher Streamers article - Waiver Wire Streamers and Starts for Week 17, from July 17 to July 23. With plenty of teams with seven games on their schedule this week, we're looking at a bunch of two-start pitchers. There are very few safe streamers this week, but there are still chances for you to get ahead with some of this week's two-start pitchers.

For those new to this recurring column, each week this fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups column will identify starting pitchers expected to make two starts in the upcoming week. It can be considered as fantasy baseball streamers ahead of the Sunday night waiver wire run for leagues with weekly transactions.

There are 38 pitchers currently scheduled to make two starts during this period. We will be looking at pitchers who are less than 50% owned in Yahoo leagues. Listed will be those who are rostered over 50%, those who are best available under 50%, and risky options under 50%. There are a few other two-start pitchers available, but they should be avoided.

Two-Start Pitchers - Over 50% Rostered

Best Available Two-Start Pitcher Streamers

Bryan Woo (46% Rostered), Seattle Mariners

Scheduled Starts: vs. MIN, vs. TOR

With a 3.26 SIERA and a 30.5% strikeout rate through seven starts, rookie Bryan Woo has blown past expectations. Expect Woo to feast against a scuffling Twins offense with a league-leading 26.9% strikeout rate. While his second start against Toronto's top-12 scoring offense is a bit dangerous, a start in the extremely pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park should offset the danger. Woo should be your preferred streaming option this week.

Matt Manning (8% Rostered), Detroit Tigers

Scheduled Starts: @ KC, vs. SD

Coming off of a no-hitter, Matt Manning is in for a two-start week. While he may not spin another no-hitter, he could get pretty close in his first start against Kansas City. San Diego has been hot lately (fourth in scoring since June 1), so that start presents some danger. However, Manning has yet to allow more than four runs in any start this season. Despite a tough start in San Diego, you have to consider streaming him with a matchup against the worst offense in the league.

Risky Two-Start Streamer Picks

Taj Bradley (41% Rostered), Tampa Bay Rays

Scheduled Starts: @ TEX, vs. BAL

While Taj Bradley is about as effective as Woo (3.43 SIERA, 29.7% strikeout rate), it's hard to trust any pitcher against a Rangers offense that tops the league in scoring and another top-10 scoring offense in Baltimore.

MacKenzie Gore (36% Rostered), Washington Nationals

Scheduled Starts: @ CHC, vs. SF

While a 3.96 SIERA and a 27.8% strikeout rate are intriguing, MacKenzie Gore is coming off an implosion against the Phillies, allowing seven runs to them before being pulled in the third inning. I'd save the intrigue for another week with his matchups against a formidable Giants offense and a Cubs offense that is fifth in runs scored in the last month.

Drew Smyly (36% Rostered), Chicago Cubs

Scheduled Starts: vs. WAS, vs. STL

In his last three starts (against the Yankees, Brewers, and Phillies), Drew Smyly holds an 11.12 ERA, a 16.9% strikeout rate, and a 13.6% walk rate. With a matchup against a St. Louis offense ranked eighth in wOBA, Smyly is not a worthwhile streaming pick.

Emmet Sheehan (29% Rostered), Los Angeles Dodgers

Scheduled Starts: @ BAL, @ TEX

Emmet Sheehan started his MLB career with two fantastic quality starts against the Giants and Astros. He followed that up with a mediocre start in Coors and a stinker against Pittsburgh. His 105 Stuff+ grade and 96 Location+ grade aren't as impressive as expected, translating to a measly 19.5% strikeout rate. While you could try the angle that Sheehan plays up to tougher competition, it's best to leave him alone this week.

Jameson Taillon (19% Rostered), Chicago Cubs

Scheduled Starts: vs. WAS, vs. STL

Jameson Taillon's 6.15 ERA is unsightly, but a 4.56 SIERA makes him a less concerning pickup. He is also coming off a one-hitter against the Yankees.

On the other hand, a 4.56 SIERA is still far too high to trust. It'd be wise not to put too much stock in an outlier revenge start. Taillon isn't worth it this week with a matchup against a Cardinals offense ranked eighth in wOBA.

Carlos Carrasco (15% Rostered), New York Mets

Scheduled Starts: vs. CHW, @ BOS

While Carlos Carrasco is coming off a miraculous shutout against the Diamondbacks, the 4.25 xFIP in that start and a 5.22 SIERA on the season is enough to fade Carrasco with a start against a top-five offense in Fenway.

Cole Irvin (3% Rostered), Baltimore Orioles

Scheduled Starts: vs. LAD, @ TB

While Cole Irvin is coming off two strong starts (two combined runs in 11-and-one-third innings, both starts against Minnesota), it makes little sense to stream a pitcher with matchups against the Rays and Dodgers.
