Welcome back, RotoBallers! We are in Week 9 and seven days away from May being over. It's time for another rankings check-in. Below is another edition of Nick Mariano's updated 2023 fantasy baseball rankings and tiers for roto leagues (5x5 mixed leagues) as of May 24, 2023. These rankings are being released in May and are looking at rest-of-season fantasy baseball rankings and player values for the rest of this MLB season from this point forward. There are many interesting storylines we are following closely, all baked into these updated rankings.
We have recently seen some top prospects, such as Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospects Bobby Miller and Gavin Stone, called up to the big leagues. At the same time, fantasy managers patiently wait for the call-up of Baltimore Orioles' top prospect Jordan Westburg, who has been tearing it up in Triple-A. The 24-year-old is hitting .295 (23-for-78) with seven home runs, 19 RBI, and 19 runs over 19 games.
Miller was impressive in his MLB debut, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out five over five innings. Unfortunately, Stone struggled again, yielding five runs on five hits and five walks over four innings during his second big league start versus Atlanta.

May Top-300 Updates
Injuries continue to pile up; the Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-hander Julio Urias (hamstring) on the injured list. Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (foot) has plantar fasciitis in his left foot, while Luis Robert Jr. (hip) tweaked his right hip on Tuesday. Seattle Mariners infielder Ty France (wrist) is out with a bruised wrist, and Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (neck) has a stiff neck.
Reinforcements are coming, as New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) could play rehab games this weekend. In contrast, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill (back) has resumed baseball activities. Cleveland Guardians right-hander Triston McKenzie (shoulder) is set for another rehab start on Thursday.
Chicago Cubs utilityman Christopher Morel continues to rake and has homered in five straight games. The 23-year-old is slashing .367/.404/.980 with nine home runs, 15 RBI, 17 runs, and a stolen base over 12 games since being called up on May 8. Minnesota has one of the best rotations in baseball with Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan, Sonny Gray, and the emergence of Louie Varland and Bailey Ober.
Some players are off to a terrific start, while some have struggled mightily to start the year. Which of these starts do we take seriously, and which do we put less stock into? Is it time to elevate our expectations on certain players and elevate touted prospects into a higher tier for fantasy baseball leagues? How much patience must we show for highly-touted players who have struggled out of the gate, especially veterans with proven track records?
Hopefully, the rankings below will give you some perspective on our thoughts on these topics and help you assess the strength of your rosters going forward. Let's see where players such as Christopher Morel, Josh Lowe, Josh Jung, Nolan Gorman, Bobby Miller, Bryan De La Cruz, Jake Burger, Miguel Castro, Taj Bradley, Matt McLain, Gavin Stone, and Michael Wacha rank, all of who are off to interesting starts in 2023.
Top 300 Fantasy Baseball Rankings - Week 9 Update
These rankings will be updated every week throughout the season, so some of these situations are very fluid. It's not panic time yet, and we may not be ready to elevate hot-starting players into the elite yet either, but it's certainly a good checkpoint for the long fantasy season.
