One situation worth exploring in fantasy is the New Orleans Saints' backfield. Veteran Alvin Kamara suffered an MCL injury in Week 12’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, leaving two young and relatively unproven running backs in a position to see a significant role increase.

Devin Neal Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook
Neal has gradually seen his role expand in the New Orleans Saints’ offense this season. Since Week 8, Neal has 14 carries for 51 yards and 12 targets (on 14 receptions) for 64 yards on a 50.6% snap share.
When Kamara was injured, Neal took over the role as the primary running back for the Saints. That allowed him to set career-highs in attempts and targets (seven). Neal hasn’t had many opportunities to take on a lead role this season, but he has been a steady contributor for the Saints in recent weeks.
Audric Estime Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook
Estime was a healthy scratch in Week 12, so he wasn’t a factor on the field after Kamara was injured. If Kamara misses Week 13, Estime will surely be on the active roster.
Estime, a 2024 fifth-round pick by the Denver Broncos, was productive in limited opportunities as a rookie. He played in 13 games (1 start), racking up 76 carries for 310 yards and two touchdowns while catching all five targets for 27 yards. Estime was a steady runner but struggled to generate big plays.

He was cut before his second season after the Broncos added J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey during the offseason. Estime landed with the Saints, even though he hasn’t had a meaningful role this season.
With Kamara (potentially injured), Estime will certainly be activated on game day. He has some level of experience and could carve out a role as an early-down back.
Should I Pick up Devin Neal or Audric Estime for Fantasy Football?
Fantasy managers looking to find some fantasy production in the Saints' backfield are likely trying to figure out who to target between these two running backs. The best answer is rookie Neal.
Not only did Neal log a 72% snap share with Kamara sidelined, but he tied for second on the team in targets (seven) against the Falcons in Week 12. Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough is not afraid to utilize his running backs as checkdowns if his first read isn’t open.
Neal also functioned as a bell cow during his final three seasons at Kansas, averaging 200.7 carries, 23.3 receptions, and over 1,400 all-purpose yards per season.

Be warned, Taysom Hill will continue to have a role in the backfield, further complicating this team’s touch distribution if Kamara is forced to miss time. He’s also worth an add if he’s available on waivers.
