Zack Wheeler Tosses Eight Shutout Innings, Punches Out 10
Zack Wheeler was masterful on Monday, striking out 10 over eight scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Padres. He picked up his eighth win of the season, allowing six hits and no walks. This was the 35-year-old's third double-digit strikeout performance of the season, and his fourth-straight start of at least eight punchouts. During that span, he's allowed just one earned run over 25 innings. The veteran remains one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and will carry a 2.36 ERA with 136 strikeouts and 25 walks into his next outing, which is currently set to be against the Reds.Source: MLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher George Springer Exits Early Monday With Neck Injury
George Springer (neck) left Monday's game in the seventh inning after getting into a rough collision while sliding into third base, reports Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. While attempting to go from first to third on a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. single, Springer's head-first slide went into Jazz Chisholm's knee, with his throat/neck area taking most of the impact. More updates on his status will be available after the game, but the best-case scenario would be that he just got the wind knocked out of him and was struggling to breathe in the moment. The 35-year-old has been enjoying a resurgent campaign so far in 2025, slashing .263/.360/.459 with 11 home runs and nine stolen bases.Source: Shi Davidi
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Chadwick Tromp Exits With Lower-Back Tightness
Chadwick Tromp (back) left Monday's game in the third inning with lower back tightness, reports Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com. Gary Sanchez shifted from designated hitter to catcher, meaning the pitcher had to take Tromp's spot in the lineup, which is a rare sight to see nowadays. More details regarding the severity of the injury should be available after the game. If the injury is serious enough to keep him out of the lineup moving forward, it could potentially open up time for top prospect Samuel Basallo. However, the Orioles are unlikely to want to waste his rookie eligibility on a lost season where they are 12 games back in their division, so veteran Jacob Stallings may be the more likely choice.Source: Rich Dubroff
Baltimore Orioles catcher Hunter Goodman Likely Headed to Injured List
Hunter Goodman (hamstring) is likely headed to the injured list, reports Christian Saez of TheDNVR.com. The move is expected with reports of catcher Austin Nola likely getting called up before Tuesday's game. Goodman has been dealing with hamstring tightness that has held him out of the lineup since June 25. This is a big blow to the Rockies and fantasy managers who have been relying on the 25-year-old, who has posted a .287 batting average with 14 home runs, 48 RBI, and 40 runs so far in 2025. The good news is that if the injury only requires a minimum stay on the injured list, the slugger will be eligible to return as early as next week.Source: Christian Saez
Colorado Rockies catcher Trent Grisham Exits With Hamstring Tightness
Trent Grisham (hamstring) left Monday's game in the bottom of the fifth inning with hamstring tightness, reports Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Jasson Dominguez replaced him in the lineup in left field, with Cody Bellinger shifting to center. Prior to the injury, Grisham was 1-for-2 with a single, so it's possible that the hamstring became an issue while he was running the bases. Expect further updates on the severity of the injury after the game. Hopefully it remains a day-to-day issue for the 28-year-old rather than requiring a trip to the injured list, as he's in the midst of a career-best season. He is slashing .246/.348/.467 with 15 home runs and regularly leads off for the Yankees.Source: Bryan Hoch
New York Yankees outfielder Chris Taylor Still Wearing a Brace
Chris Taylor (hand) is still wearing a brace on his fractured left hand but will accompany the team on their road trip to Atlanta and Toronto this week, according to MLB.com. Taylor was hit by a pitch on June 9 and landed on the 10-day injured list a day later after X-rays showed a fracture. We'll have a better idea on the 34-year-old veteran's timetable for a return when he resumes baseball activities, but in a best-case scenario he might be able to return as a super-utility player for the Halos in late July. The strikeout-happy Taylor was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers this year after hitting .200 with 13 strikeouts in 35 plate appearances. He went 6-for-30 (.200) with a homer, three RBI and 13 K's in his first 10 games with the Angels and is merely an AL-only option for bench depth at this point in his career.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Angels infielder/outfielder Yoan Moncada Beginning Rehab Assignment
Yoan Moncada (knee) has been taking batting practice from the left side and taking part in on-field baseball activities. He left for Arizona on Sunday to start a minor-league rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, according to MLB.com. Moncada was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 2 with right-knee inflammation but could return before the mid-July All-Star break as long as he doesn't have a setback on his rehab assignment. The 30-year-old veteran switch-hitter continues to deal with injuries and just hasn't been reliable for fantasy managers outside of infield depth in AL-only leagues. He's gone 23-for-97 (.237) in his first year with the Halos with six home runs, 19 RBI and 16 runs scored. When Moncada returns, he should see plenty of playing time at third base alongside Luis Rengifo.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Gil to Throw Live Batting Practice on Tuesday
Luis Gil (lat) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session on Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, and his minor-league rehab assignment could start this Sunday, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Gil is expected to throw around 35 pitches during his live BP session on Tuesday after completing bullpen sessions on a regular basis recently. The 27-year-old will need at least a few starts in the minors before the Yankees consider activating him for his 2025 season debut in late July or early August. Gil won the American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2024 with a 3.50 ERA, but his 4.36 xFIP and .237 BABIP shows that he was probably fortunate to be as good as he was last year. He has plenty of strikeout stuff after fanning 26.8% of the batters he faced, but he also had an elevated 12.1% walk rate. Fantasy managers might want to temper expectations upon his return.Source: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch

Alex Bregman "Feeling Great"
Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is "feeling great," and his six-week reassessment is coming this weekend, according to the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Starr. "The way he's talking about it he's close to 100 percent," manager Alex Cora said. While Bregman has made excellent progress and feels great, we already know that the BoSox plan on holding him out until the start of the second half of the season on July 18. Until then, rookie Marcelo Mayer will continue to serve as Boston's third baseman against right-handed pitchers. Fantasy managers will be hoping that Bregman can continue to lean into his power when he comes off the injured list, as he was hitting a strong .299 (59-for-197) with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, 32 runs scored and a steal in his first 51 games with Boston before his quad injury.Source: Boston Herald - Gabrielle Starr
Boston Red Sox third baseman Matt Chapman Could Return for Start of Giants Homestand
Matt Chapman (hand) returns for the entire homestand, which begins on Monday, July 7, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Chapman was scheduled to take batting practice on Monday before the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants had been aiming for the last series before the All-Star break for Chapman's return from the 10-day injured list, but he's apparently making good progress and will push to be back before then. Casey Schmitt (hand) landed on the IL on Monday, so Christian Koss is now the team's starting third baseman until Chapman can return next week. The 32-year-old Chapman has been out since June 8 with a right-hand sprain but is close to a return. If he was dropped in your fantasy league, now is the time to pick him up.Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Alex Pavlovic
San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said that it's possible that third baseman Wyatt Langford Expected to Return on Saturday
Wyatt Langford (oblique) to return from the 10-day injured list before Saturday's game against the hosting San Diego Padres. Langford will likely start his minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday. Barring a setback on his rehab assignment, the 23-year-old will have a minimal stay on the IL, which is music to his fantasy managers' ears. The former first-rounder out of Florida will return to regular starting duties for the Rangers in left field to close out the first half of the season. Langford hits the ball very hard when he makes contact and has plenty of power/speed upside for fantasy managers, but he's in the 37th percentile for whiff rate and has already dealt with multiple oblique injuries, dating back to spring training. He's currently slashing .232/.308/.421 with 13 homers, 31 RBI and 11 steals.Source: The Dallas Morning News - Shawn McFarland
Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said that the team expects outfielder Jake Burger Should be Ready to Return This Weekend
Jake Burger (oblique) will start his minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday and should be ready to return from the 10-day injured list for the start of the team's road trip this weekend in San Diego against the Padres, according to Jeff Wilson. President of baseball operations Chris Young thinks Burger will be back on Friday. The 29-year-old Burger has been out since June 21 with a strained left oblique. The former first-rounder by the Chicago White Sox in 2017 out of Missouri State has plenty of power but also a lot of swing and miss to his game. Burger has 10 homers in 236 at-bats and is hitting .220 (52-for-236) in his first year in Texas. He was briefly sent down to the minors amid a slump earlier this year, but he should see regular playing time when he's back between first base and designated hitter.Source: DLLS Sports - Jeff Wilson
Texas Rangers first baseman Corbin Carroll to Take Dry Swings on Tuesday
Corbin Carroll (wrist) will start taking dry swings on Tuesday, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Carroll was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 24 with a chip fracture in his left wrist. While it's a good sign that he's already going to start swinging a bat this week, the 24-year-old former National League Rookie of the Year still has a ways to go and isn't going to be ready to rejoin the big-league roster when the second half of the season kicks off on July 18. The former first-rounder should be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues as one of the best all-around fantasy assets in the game. Before his injury, he was slashing .255/.341/.573 with a .914 OPS, 20 home runs, 44 RBI, 57 runs and 10 steals in 286 at-bats. Randal Grichuk and Jake McCarthy will platoon in right field in the desert until Carroll returns.Source: SI.com - Jack Sommers
