Casey Schmitt Placed on 10-Day Injured List, Tyler Fitzgerald Recalled
Casey Schmitt (hand) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 27) on Monday with left-hand inflammation and recalled infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. Christian Koss is making another start at third base and is hitting leadoff, while Fitzgerald is at second base and batting seventh on Monday against Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson. Schmitt is dealing with a bone bruise in his left hand/wrist and will head to the IL after missing each of the last four games. He could be able to return to the team for the start of the second half on July 18, but by that time, starting third baseman Matt Chapman (hand) is expected to be back from his IL stint. Schmitt will be a bench infielder when he's recovered from his hand injury.
