Zac Gallen Agrees To One-Year, $5.6 Million Deal
2 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks and starting pitcher Zac Gallen avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $5.6 million deal. In his third full season with the Snakes, Gallen had a career-best season, going 12-4 with a 2.54 ERA (3.05 FIP), a league-best 0.91 WHIP, a league-best 5.9 hits per nine innings and a 26.9 percent strikeout rate in 31 starts over a career-high 184 innings to come in fifth in National League Cy Young voting. The 27-year-old right-hander came into last season with an ERA above 4.00 in just one of his three seasons, with the other resulting in sub-3.00 ERAs. While he did strike out a career-low 9.4 hitters in 2022, all of his other peripherals look strong as he heads into his fifth MLB season.
