Will Vest Struggles in Non-Save Situation
Will Vest had a rough outing in a non-save situation during a 7-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Vest came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning with a 7-3 lead and yielded three hits, including a Bryce Harper two-run homer, to turn the game into a nail-biter. He ended up retiring two batters (both via strikeout) before the Tigers replaced him with the just-acquired Kyle Finnegan. Fortunately for Detroit, Finnegan notched a four-out save to secure the victory. Vest, meanwhile, has been shaky in three of his past four outings. He blew a save Friday and is 16 out of 21 on the year with a 2.85 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 54:15 K:BB.
