Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Has Yet To Unlock His Potential
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman/third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be just 22 years old on Opening Day, and his 12 batted balls with at least a 115 mph exit velocity since he debuted in 2019 are five more than any other player has since the start of that season. Last year, Guerrero had a 50.8 percent hard-hit rate, which ranked 12th among players with at least 100 batted balls and was up around 12 percentage points from 2019. The key for the young slugger will be getting more lift on the ball on a consistent basis so that he can put all that hard contact to good use. With better conditioning, Vlad should be able to maintain better swing mechanics throughout the season to cut down on his 54.6 percent ground-ball rate from 2020. He's worth taking a chance on in the early rounds and could easily be a top-five fantasy first baseman if he can make those adjustments.
