Steven Brault Shut Down From Throwing
5 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Steven Brault (shoulder) has been shut down from throwing in camp due to a left shoulder strain. Brault will be re-evaluated in two weeks and will remain with the team during his rehab. The 27-year-old (28 in April) left-hander is unlikely to be ready by Opening Day with this news. He was in competition for the final spot in the team's starting rotation after going 4-6 with a 5.16 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 113 1/3 innings over 19 starts and six relief outings in 2019. With Brault on the shelf and not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, it's likely to come down to either Chad Kuhl or Derek Holland for the final spot.
