Shohei Ohtani To Hit For Himself Tuesday
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani told manager Joe Maddon that he wants to be in the batting lineup on Tuesday against the Houston Astros, which would mark the third time hitting for himself on the same day he pitches this year after never doing it in the majors before 2021. He was held out for precautionary reasons his last two starts on the mound after being hit by a pitch on his right elbow and also while dealing with a blister on his right middle finger. Ohtani is expected to hit second on Tuesday and has been in the lineup for 32 of the team's 34 games this year. The 26-year-old two-way star has a 2.41 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 19 walks in 18 2/3 innings as a pitcher and entered Monday slashing .276/.326/.626 with 10 homers (tied for the league lead), nine doubles and 26 RBI in 31 games. Ohtani is a must-start on the mound and as a hitter in fantasy right now.
