Seahawks Have Preliminary Extension Talks With Geno Smith
2 years agoSeattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that the team has only had preliminary conversation about a new deal for quarterback Geno Smith, who is expected to be Seattle's starter in 2023. Carroll also called Smith a "winner." "Feel assured that John's all over it," Carroll said. Smith played the 2022 campaign on a one-year deal, so he'll be an unrestricted free agent in March. He led the league with a 69.8% completion percentage and threw for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in the Seahawks' first season without Russell Wilson. The Seahawks also possess the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 draft, so if they do not elect to re-sign Smith to a multi-year extension, there's a good chance they'll be looking at the QB position with that pick.
