Ryan McMahon Drawing Interest From Yankees
Ryan McMahon is continuing to receive interest from the New York Yankees heading into the July 31 trade deadline, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The Yankees regard McMahon as a backup plan to Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who's their preferred acquisition, per Feinsand. Third base is an obvious need for the Yankees, as they've gotten woeful production from the glove-first Oswald Peraza since Jazz Chisholm's permanent move to second base on July 8. McMahon is on his way to a sixth 20-home run season, having racked up 16 in 401 plate appearances and three since last Friday. However, his overall production has been unspectacular. The 30-year-old has hit .217/.314/.403, including .209/.292/.314 versus lefties and .189/.265/.324 away from Coors Field. McMahon's struggles against southpaws and on the road aren't anything new, but the Yankees may be bullish on his left-handed swing meshing well with their short porch in right field. The Yankees wouldn't be taking a cheap gamble on McMahon, who's making $16 million this year and will collect the same salary in each of the next two seasons.
