Raiders Ask Marcus Mariota To Take A Pay Cut
4 years agoThe Las Vegas Raiders asked backup quarterback Marcus Mariota to take a pay cut down to just $3 million in 2021, according to a source. If Mariota refuses to do so, the team will move on. While a Mariota release is now likely, the team could also find a trade partner. He is due $10.725 million and believes he has options on the open market. The 27-year-old had an impressive performance late last season in relief of an injured Derek Carr, and quarterback-needy teams could view him as a potential starter heading into the 2021 season. However, interested teams may be hesitant to shell out a draft pick for him. Mariota still has dual-threat abilities as a signal-caller, but his accuracy issues are the primary reason the Titans moved on from him. Mariota would be nothing more than a mediocre QB2 if he leaves Las Vegas and finds a starting gig elsewhere.
