Pirates Add Nick Gonzales To Player Pool
4 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates added first-round pick Nick Gonzales to their 60-player pool on Wednesday after they drafted the New Mexico State shortstop seventh overall in June. Gonzales will report to the team's alternate training site in Altoona if he returns a negative COVID-19 test. Pittsburgh had an opening on their roster when pitcher Hector Noesi opted out of the season last week, citing family reasons. Gonzales was the 2019 batting champion in college with a .432 average. He slashed .448/.610/.1.155 and led college baseball with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, 28 runs and 67 total bases in just 16 games before the season was shut down in the spring. Gonzales' addition to the player pool is strictly for developmental purposes.
