Patriots Will Begin Search For New Offensive Coordinator
2 years agoThe New England Patriots announced on Thursday that they will begin interviews for a new offensive coordinator next week. Head coach Bill Belichick is returning for his 24th NFL season, but he will move away from the structure he used in 2022 in which he didn't name an official coordinator. Matt Patricia and Joe Judge filled leading roles on the offensive staff, with Patricia calling in plays to quarterback Mac Jones. The move was questioned by many, as Patricia's background in the NFL was on defense, and Judge's was on special teams. It led to a noticeable dip in production on offense, ranking 32nd in red-zone efficiency, 27th in third-down conversion rate, 28th in first downs and 19th in sacks allowed. They scored 48 touchdowns in 21 and just 31 this season. Former QBs coach/offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is among several candidates Belichick is expected to consider.
