Panthers Work Out Duke Johnson Friday
3 years agoWith Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) expected to miss the next couple of weeks with a hamstring strain, the team worked out running back Duke Johnson on Friday, according to a source. Rookie Chuba Hubbard should see the majority of backfield work in McCaffrey's absence, with former Denver Broncos back Royce Freeman helping to spell the rookie. If Johnson were to sign, he'd be providing Carolina with a proven pass-catching running back, but he wouldn't be guaranteed to see much playing time over the next few weeks. The 28-year-old had 77 carries for 235 yards and a touchdown and 28 receptions for 249 yards and another score in 11 games (five starts) in 2020 with the Houston Texans.
