Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Nabil Crismatt will start Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers. It'll be Crismatt's third appearance and second start for the Diamondbacks, who signed him to a minor-league contract earlier this month after the Philadelphia Phillies released him. The 30-year-old journeyman has thrown nine innings for the D-backs and given up just one run on seven hits while recording nine strikeouts against four walks. He's in for an enormous challenge against the Brewers, who own the majors' best record by a wide margin and have piled up the third-most runs in the league.--Connor ByrneSource: Alex Weiner - Arizona Sports

Atlanta Braves right-hander Cal Quantrill (calf) will make his second start as a member of the club on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Quantrill, claimed from the Miami Marlins on Aug. 21, had to leave his Braves debut last Saturday with calf cramps. He threw 4 2/3 innings of three-run, five-hit ball in that game and took the loss in a 9-2 blowout against the New York Mets. The 30-year-old has gone 4-11 with a 5.51 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 85:35 K:BB in 114 1/3 frames this season. Quantrill has struggled mightily in two starts this year versus the Phillies, who have teed off on him for 10 runs on 11 hits and three walks (two strikeouts) over 7 1/3 innings.--Connor ByrneSource: Lindsay Crosby - Braves Today

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows (quadriceps) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. He played the first five innings of the game and went 2-for-3 with a triple and a single. The 25-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list with a strained right quadriceps for a month, but he could return to the majors in short order if he doesn't encounter any setbacks in the minors. Thanks in part to multiple injuries, Meadows hasn't contributed much in the bigs this season. A nerve issue in Meadows' right arm prevented him from making his 2025 debut until June 2, and he could only muster a .200/.270/.296 line with two homers, nine RBI, 15 runs, and three steals over 38 games and 137 plate appearances before he had to go back on the IL. Meadows is expected to receive regular playing time in center field when he rejoins the Tigers.--Connor ByrneSource: MLB.com

The Chicago Cubs have recalled right-hander Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa to start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies, according to Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network. He'll take over for righty Jameson Taillon (groin), who's going on the 15-day injured list with tightness in his left groin. After missing the first four-plus months of the season with an oblique strain, Assad made his 2025 debut on Aug. 12 and has spent the past couple of weeks ping-ponging between the majors and the minors. He has made three starts for Chicago and pitched to a 3.86 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP, nine strikeouts, and three walks in 14 innings. He'll return to face Colorado, which has scored the majors' second-fewest runs, though he'll have to toe the rubber at hitter-friendly Coors Field.--Connor ByrneSource: Taylor McGregor

The Chicago Cubs have placed right-hander Jameson Taillon (groin) on the 15-day injured list with left-groin tightness and recalled righty Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa. Taillon suffered the injury on Sunday when he had to leave early after tossing five innings of one-run ball in a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The 33-year-old felt OK after throwing off a mound on Wednesday, but the Cubs are taking a cautious approach with him, and they're optimistic that he'll return in two weeks. Taillon is now on the IL for the second time this season after sitting out all of July and two-plus weeks in August with a calf strain. In 19 starts and 106 1/3 innings this year, Taillon has gone 9-6 with a 4.15 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 81:21 K:BB.--Connor ByrneSource: MLB.com

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Alex Call (back) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Cincinnati Reds due to a lower-back injury, according to manager Dave Roberts. Call has really only been starting for a loaded Dodgers team when they face a left-handed pitcher like on Wednesday night versus Nick Lodolo, but he's resting up due to a back injury. Michael Conforto will get the nod in left field instead and will bat sixth for the Blue as they go for the three-game sweep. Call's fantasy value has taken a hit since being traded from the Washington Nationals to the Dodgers at this year's trade deadline. He's hitting .275 (64-for-233) on the season, but with only four home runs and 29 RBI in 91 total games. Since coming to the Dodgers, he's gone 10-for-36 (.278) with a homer, three RBI and one steal in 19 games.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Fabian Ardaya

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (neck) is dealing with a stinger and is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Cincinnati Reds, according to manager Dave Roberts. However, with an off day coming on Thursday, the plan is for Freeman to be back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks. The 35-year-old former MVP and nine-time All-Star continues to be one of the best all-around hitters in baseball in 2025 and is hitting .319 (29-for-91) with seven home runs, seven doubles, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored for fantasy managers in 24 games in August. Freeman currently leads the league with a .302 batting average overall and is a must-start whenever he's on the field in fantasy. Enrique Hernandez is at first and batting fifth on Wednesday against Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Fabian Ardaya

Houston Astros catcher Victor Caratini (concussion) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the visiting Colorado Rockies and is in the league's concussion protocol, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. With Yainer Diaz (hand) also missing another day due to an injury, the Astros called up backstop Cesar Salazar, who will make the start and catch left-hander Framber Valdez on Wednesday. It's possible that Caratini will land on the seven-day concussion injured list, which would mean Salazar would stay around for at least a week to serve as Diaz's backup. The 32-year-old suffered a concussion after recently taking a few foul balls off his mask. The veteran switch-hitter has been a nice complement to Diaz for the Astros this year and has matched his career-high total of 11 homers while batting .262 (78-for-298) across 95 games. UPDATE: Caratini was placed on the seven-day concussion IL.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Chandler Rome

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios won't make his scheduled start against the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend. Instead, Shane Bieber, Kevin Gausman, and Max Scherzer will pitch this weekend. Berrios doesn't appear to be dealing with an injury, but the Jays want to be cautious down the stretch. The right-hander has already thrown over 150 innings this season. They've decided to give Berrios some extra rest and start him against the Cincinnati Reds next week. This will be a more appealing option for fantasy managers than pitching against the red-hot Brewers lineup. Fantasy managers shouldn't be worried about an injury as this appears to be precautionary to limit his innings.--Andy WebbSource: Ben Nicholson-Smith

Houston Astros catcher Yainer Diaz (hand) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Diaz was hit by a pitch on the left wrist during Sunday's game. He has been sidelined since then, but is available to come off the bench as a pinch-hitter. Fellow catcher Victor Caratini (head) is in concussion protocol at the moment. That being said, Cesar Salazer will do the catching for lefty Framber Valdez on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should consider Diaz as day-to-day. He figures to be back in the lineup within the next day or two.--Andy WebbSource: Chandler Rome

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Aaron Ashby is scheduled to take the mound as the opener for Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The southpaw will make an emergency start with Quinn Priester (wrist) being pushed back to Saturday. Ashby figures to only throw an inning or two considering he pitched during Monday's contest. Newly signed Erick Fedde figures to operate as the bulk option during Wednesday's game. This is a situation to avoid for fantasy purposes as Ashby won't go deep in this game.--Andy WebbSource: Adam McCalvy

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Quinn Priester (wrist) was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday. According to Brewers manager Pat Murphy, Priester is being pushed back to Saturday due to a wrist issue. It doesn't sound like something that is going to require a trip to the injured list. Instead, the Brewers will opt to give Priester some extra rest and hope that'll fix the issue. In his place, Aaron Ashby will draw the start on Wednesday with newly signed Erick Fedde serving as the bulk option out of the bullpen. This is a situation to avoid in fantasy formats. Fantasy managers should check back later in the week for another update on Priester.--Andy WebbSource: Adam McCalvy

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery (side) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Montgomery has been playing through some left side discomfort, so he'll get the day off here. He underwent imaging, but it didn't reveal anything significant. That being said, fantasy managers should consider Montgomery as day-to-day. Montgomery has been on a nice power streak with four home runs in his last four games. The rookie infielder has 14 homers through 43 games with the White Sox this season. He's not offering a ton of value outside of that, but is still worth rostering in deep leagues. Chase Meidroth will take over shortstop while Lenyn Sosa plays second base against right-hander Ryan Bergert on Wednesday.--Andy WebbSource: Scott Merkin

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk (hand) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Kirk underwent X-rays on his hand after getting hit by a foul tip during Tuesday's game. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative, so Kirk appears to have avoided major injury. The Jays are going to take the cautious approach and hold out Kirk on Wednesday. He could miss a few games until the swelling goes down. However, it sounds like Kirk will avoid a trip to the injured list. Tyler Heineman will do the catching and bat eighth against the Twins on Wednesday.--Andy WebbSource: Arden Zwelling
