Victor Scott II Exits Early With Sprained Ankle
Victor Scott II (ankle) sprained his left ankle and had to leave early on Saturday against the New York Yankees, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Scott suffered the injury trying to rob Aaron Judge of a home run in the third inning. He stayed in the game and played through the discomfort until the Cardinals replaced him with pinch-hitter Garrett Hampson in the sixth. Scott ended the night 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, and the 24-year-old speedster is now hitting .223/.311/.312 with five homers, 35 RBI, 49 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases over 402 plate appearances. It's not yet clear whether he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list. UPDATE: Scott is undergoing an MRI exam, according to manager Oliver Marmol. If he cannot play on Sunday, the Cardinals will need to make a roster move.Source: John Denton - MLB.com
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Marcus Semien Avoids Serious Injury
Marcus Semien (hand) was absent from the starting lineup during Saturday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Semien missed this game after waking up on Saturday with a swollen wrist after getting hit by a pitch during Friday's contest. He underwent X-rays which came back negative for any fractures or serious damage. That being said, Semien could miss a few days until the swelling goes down, but he shouldn't require a stint on the injured list. Fantasy managers should check back on Sunday for another update on his status.Source: Shawn McFarland
Texas Rangers second baseman Vinnie Pasquantino Removed Early on Saturday
Vinnie Pasquantino (illness) was removed early during Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Pasquantino was pulled out of the game after his first-inning strikeout due to a heat related illness. This doesn't sound like a serious issue, so Pasquantino should be back in the lineup in a day or two. Nick Loftin took over at first base on Saturday. He could see a start or two over there if Pasquantino misses more time. Fantasy managers should check back on Sunday for another update.Source: Kansas City Royals
Kansas City Royals first baseman Kyle Stowers Heads to Injured List With Left-Side Strain
Kyle Stowers (side) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Stowers was reportedly held out on Saturday as a precaution, but manager Clayton McCullough announced he's going to the shelf due to a Grade 1 left side strain. This is the type of injury that is going to take several weeks to heal. That being said, Stowers might not be back until possibly mid-September. That's a tough blow to the Marlins lineup considering Stowers breakout campaign. For now, fantasy managers should stash Stowers on their IR until more news is known. Heriberto Hernandez started in left field on Saturday. Also, outfielder Joey Wiemer was recalled to take over Stowers' spot on the active roster.Source: Daniel Alvarz-Montes
Miami Marlins outfielder Zack Wheeler Placed on Injured List With Blood Clot in Shoulder
Zack Wheeler (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday. Wheeler is going to miss an unknown period of time due to blood clots near his right shoulder. This could explain why Wheeler has been struggling on the mound lately. The Phillies will take the cautious approach and shut down Wheeler for the time being. They haven't offered any timetable on Wheeler, but that probably won't be known until they see how he responds to treatment. The loss of Wheeler means the Phillies probably won't be going with a six-man rotation anymore. Wheeler has been excellent this season with a 2.71 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and a league-leading 195 strikeouts in 24 starts this season. Fantasy managers will need to stay tuned for more updates on his status. UPDATE: Wheeler will head back to Philadelphia for further testing on Sunday, according to manager Rob Thomson.Source: Jeff Passan
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Daniel Palencia Unavailable Due to Illness
Daniel Palencia (illness) didn't take the mound during the ninth inning of Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Instead, Brad Keller was tasked with recording the final three outs on Saturday. Afterwards, manager Craig Counsell said that Palencia was feeling under the weather, so they gave him a day off. This probably wasn't a bad idea considering Palencia gave up the go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth inning on Friday. Despite that, Palencia has been excellent with a 1.85 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 46/11 K/BB ratio with 16 saves this season. He figures to return to his gig as the primary closer in a few days.Source: Andy Martinez
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Josh Lowe Scratched from Saturday's Lineup
Josh Lowe (oblique) was scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He was originally penciled in to play right field, but will now head to the bench due to oblique tightness. For now, fantasy managers can consider Lowe as day-to-day, but oblique issues often times result in injured list stints. Everson Pereira will move into the lineup and cover center field while Jake Mangum slides into right field. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on Lowe.Source: Marc Topkin
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Yordan Alvarez Takes Live At-Bats on Saturday
Yordan Alvarez (hand) was able to take eight live at-bats in West Palm Beach on Saturday. Now, Alvarez will return to Houston on Sunday to determine the next steps in his rehab process. Alvarez has been sidelined since early May due to a fractured hand. That being said, Alvarez is likely going to need a lengthy rehab assignment before rejoining the Astros lineup. Barring any setbacks, Alvarez should hopefully be able to return to Houston by September. Fantasy managers might still be able to get something out of Alvarez this season. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update.Source: Chandler Rome
Houston Astros outfielder Antonio Senzatela Returning on Sunday
Antonio Senzatela (finger) is expected to be activated off the injured list and start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Senzatela has been on the shelf since August 2 due to a blister on his finger. He was only forced to miss the minimum of 15 days due to the injury. Senzatela has been horrible with a 7.34 ERA, 1.91 WHIP, and a 55/38 K/BB ratio across 22 appearances this season. There's no reason to stream him for Sunday's game.Source: Christian Saez
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Paul Goldschmidt Remaining Out on Saturday
Paul Goldschmidt (knee) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Goldschmidt will now miss his third straight game due to right knee soreness. For now, fantasy managers should consider Goldschmidt as day-to-day. He'll get one more chance on Sunday to suit up against his former team. In the meantime, Ben Rice will take over at first base and bat second versus right-hander Sonny Gray. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly.Source: mlb.com
New York Yankees first baseman Cody Bellinger Absent from Saturday's Lineup
Cody Bellinger (illness) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. At first, Bellinger appeared to be getting a routine rest day which he certainly needed given his current slump at the plate. Now, it's being reported that Bellinger is absent from the lineup due to an illness. This shouldn't be something that lands Bellinger on the injured list. Fantasy managers should consider Bellinger as day-to-day. Jasson Dominguez, Trent Grisham, and Jose Caballero will cover the outfield for the Yankees on Saturday.Source: Katie Woo
New York Yankees outfielder Orlando Arcia Activated on Saturday
Orlando Arcia (elbow) was activated off the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Arcia missed the minimum 10 days while dealing with elbow inflammation. Despite being activated, Arcia isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It's possible that Arcia moves into a part-time role with the Rockies likely wanting to get some of their younger players more playing time down the stretch. That being said, Arcia isn't someone that needs to be rostered in fantasy formats right now. In a corresponding move, Aaron Schunk has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room for Arcia on the active roster.Source: Rockies Club Information
Colorado Rockies shortstop Jeremy Pena Remains Out on Saturday
Jeremy Pena (illness) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This marks the second game in a row that Pena has missed due to an illness. It doesn't sound like something that is going to land him on the injured list. For now, fantasy managers should consider Pena as day-to-day. Mauricio Dubon will draw another start at shortstop and bat seventh versus right-hander Rico Garcia on Saturday.Source: mlb.com
Houston Astros shortstop Shane Bieber Dominant in Rehab Start, Nearing Blue Jays Debut
Shane Bieber (elbow) thrived in his third and likely final rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. Bieber fired seven innings of shutout ball with six hits allowed and four strikeouts against no walks. The former AL Cy Young winner threw 90 pitches (64 strikes), which should put him in line to join the Blue Jays sometime next week. Bieber hasn't pitched in the majors since April 2, 2024, and has spent 15 months on the comeback trail from Tommy John surgery. He has yet to suit up for the Jays, who acquired him from the Cleveland Guardians at the July 31 trade deadline. Despite the long layoff, the 30-year-old comes with serious upside and could be an asset for Toronto and fantasy managers down the stretch.Source: MiLB.com
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Nationals to Release Nathaniel Lowe
Nathaniel Lowe. The team designated Lowe for assignment on Thursday, and he'll hit free agency once he clears waivers. Nobody is going to take on the remainder of Lowe's $10.3 million salary, so he's on his way to the open market after a disappointing few months with the Nationals. Lowe was a quality hitter with the Rangers from 2021-24, but after joining the Nationals in an offseason trade, he could only muster a .216/.292/.373 line with 16 homers, 68 RBI, and 50 runs scored in 490 plate appearances.Source: Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals announced that they have requested unconditional release waivers on first baseman
