Carlos Santana Released on Thursday
Carlos Santana was released by the organization on Thursday. Santana was placed on outright waivers on Tuesday and surprisingly went unclaimed. The 39-year-old has struggled this season, but could offer some veteran leadership to a contending roster. He's slashing .225/.316/.333 with 11 home runs, 52 RBI, and seven stolen bases this season. The veteran switch-hitter is free to sign with another organization. He could be an interesting bench bat for a contending team, but is unlikely to offer consistent fantasy value at this stage of his career.Source: Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland Guardians first baseman Jack Kochanowicz Optioned to Triple-A
Jack Kochanowicz was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Kochanowicz will head to the minors after getting crushed for 10 earned runs over 3.1 innings during Wednesday's loss to the Texas Rangers. It has been a disaster of a season for Kochanowicz who holds a 6.81 ERA and 1.75 WHIP across 111.0 innings with the Angels this season. Clearly, he still has things to work out in the minor leagues, but Kochanowicz does have promising upside. In a corresponding move, left-hander Tyler Anderson was reinstated off the paternity list. Anderson is scheduled to take the ball against the Houston Astros on Friday.Source: Angels PR
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Tyler Anderson Reinstated on Thursday
Tyler Anderson was reinstated from the paternity leave list on Thursday. Anderson has been away from the team since Monday while he welcomes a new addition to his family. Now that he's back, Anderson is scheduled to take the ball against the Houston Astros on Friday. Anderson has struggled on the mound lately as he's allowed four earned runs in three of his last four starts. He's not a recommended streaming option for Friday's slate. In a corresponding move, right-hander Jack Kochanowicz has been optioned to Triple-A.Source: Angels PR
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jonah Tong Confirmed to Start on Friday
Jonah Tong is slated to start Friday's contest against the Miami Marlins. The right-hander is slated to make his MLB debut in this game. Tong has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the entire minor leagues this season and is finally being rewarded with a promotion. Tong began the campaign with Double-A and logged an impressive 102 innings to the tune of a 1.68 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. During this stretch, Tong racked up an eye-catching 162 strikeouts with just 44 walks. He was then bumped up to Triple-A Syracuse. With the top ranks of the system, Tong needed only two starts to prove he was ready to join the big leagues. Given his elite upside, he should be viewed as a must-add in all leagues ahead of his debut.Source: MLB.com
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Frankie Montas has UCL Tear, Could Miss All of 2026
Frankie Montas (elbow) needs surgery to fix a torn UCL in his right elbow, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. It remains to be seen if Montas will undergo Tommy John surgery or have an internal-brace procedure, but a full UCL reconstruction is considered "most likely." If the 32-year-old veteran has a full UCL reconstruction, it will most likely keep him out for the entire 2026 campaign. However, Montas will almost certainly exercise his $17 million player option for next year. The Dominican hurler didn't make his 2025 debut until June 24 due to an injury that he suffered in spring training, and he was not effective at all when he did rejoin the Mets. In nine outings for New York, Montas went 3-2 with a 6.28 ERA and 1.60 WHIP with 32 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings. He will be off the fantasy radar entirely in 2026.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
New York Mets right-hander Corey Seager Undergoing Appendectomy on Thursday
Corey Seager (appendix) was diagnosed with appendicitis and is undergoing an appendectomy on Thursday, according to general manager and president of baseball operations Chris Young. The Rangers aren't ruling out Seager playing again this year, but in the meantime, utility man Dylan Moore will join the active roster with Seager going on the injured list. For however long Seager is out of action, fantasy managers should expect Josh Smith to man the 6 in Texas. The 28-year-old offers positional versatility for fantasy lineups but not a whole lot else. In 121 games (480 plate appearances) in his fourth year in the big leagues, Smith is slashing .256/.333/.378 with nine home runs, 32 RBI, nine steals and 61 runs scored. Seager has reached the 20-homer mark for the fourth straight season, so his loss is a big one for a Rangers team looking more unlikely to make the postseason in 2025.Source: Dallas Morning News - Shawn McFarland
Texas Rangers shortstop Francisco Alvarez Suffers Broken Pinkie Finger
Francisco Alvarez (finger, thumb) said that he broke his pinkie finger on Wednesday night during a minor-league rehab game at Triple-A Syracuse when he was hit by a pitch. However, Alvarez remains hopeful that he can play again this year. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo writes that the hope is that Alvarez can return to play in two to three days since it's only a small fracture to his pinkie. He was out playing catch on Thursday but had a trainer catching the ball for him. The 23-year-old backstop was already rehabbing a right-thumb injury that will eventually require surgery. Alvarez could rejoin the Mets in September, but fantasy managers aren't holding their breathe for a catcher that can't seem to stay healthy. The Venezuelan has played in only 56 games for the Mets this year and has hit .265 (49-for-185) with seven home runs and 24 RBI.Source: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo
New York Mets catcher Colson Montgomery Missing Another Game
Colson Montgomery (side) is missing another game on Thursday against the visiting New York Yankees at Rate Field. Chase Meidroth is starting at shortstop for the Pale Hose and will hit ninth against Yankees right-hander Will Warren. Montgomery initially dealt with a left-side issue last week but had returned before developing more soreness and being held out of Wednesday's game. It sounds like a day-to-day situation for the 23-year-old, but fantasy managers shouldn't rule out a trip to the injured list if he's unable to return before the end of the weekend. With Meidroth at short, Lenyn Sosa draws into the lineup at second base. Montgomery will operate as Chicago's starting shortstop the rest of the way if he's healthy, and although he's hit just .230 in his first 152 big-league at-bats, the power is real (14 homers).Source: MLB.com
Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Cam Caminiti Strikes Out Nine in Latest Start
Source: MiLB.com
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Cam Caminiti was excellent again on Wednesday, making his longest start of the year at Single-A Augusta. The Braves' top prospect allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out nine batters in six innings of work for the GreenJackets. The 2024 first-rounder is now the owner of a 2.32 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 21.1 percent K-BB% through 12 starts (50 1/3 innings pitched) at that level. If not for such a late start to the season, the 19-year-old would likely have moved on to High-A by now, and with his talent, he could see some time at Double-A before 2026 is over. He's still likely a couple of seasons away from the majors, but he's looking like a solid dynasty stash.Jakob Wright Activated From Injured List on Thursday
Source: MiLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Jakob Wright (undisclosed) was activated off the seven-day injured list on Thursday. It's not clear what was ailing the Dodgers' 29th-ranked prospect, but he hasn't pitched since June 15. The 2024 fourth-rounder looked good in his limited play this season, posting a 1.10 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings pitched. The southpaw can use the remainder of the season to get back on track and make his case for a promotion to High-A next season. The Cal Poly product's signature slider in his arsenal of pitches gets plenty of whiffs, but it remains to be seen if the 6-foot hurler will remain a starter or transition to a reliever as he gets closer to the big leagues.Coleman Crow Likely Done for the Year
Coleman Crow (forearm) will likely miss the rest of the 2025 season with a flexor strain. The Brewers' 25th-ranked prospect hadn't pitched since July 9, and was dealing with a hip injury at that time as well. The 24-year-old was the team's Minor League Pitcher of the Month in June, which earned him a promotion to Triple-A, where he made two starts before hitting the injured list. Prior to his last start, in which he allowed six earned runs in three innings, the right-hander boasted a 2.30 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched (26.8 percent K-BB%). So long as the flexor strain doesn't turn into something worse, look for the 6-foot hurler to debut with the Brewers sometime in 2026.Source: Adam McCalvy
Milwaukee Brewers pitching prospect Andre Pallante to Remain in Rotation and Start on Sunday
Andre Pallante, who has gone 1-8 with an 8.27 ERA in his last nine starts, will start in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Cincinnati Reds. MLB.com's John Denton explains that Pallante's underlying metrics show that his stuff is similar to what he had last yeaer, but hitters have adjusted. The Cardinals want him to work through the necessary changes. Needless to say, we wouldn't recommend using the 26-year-old in starting fantasy lineups this weekend against a desperate Reds team. The former fourth-rounder is now 6-12 on the year with a career-high 5.44 ERA (4.63 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP with a career-high 95 strikeouts and 48 walks in 139 innings over his 26 starts. In two starts against Cincy this year, Pallante has gone 0-2 but allowed only three earned runs with three walks and eight K's in 12 innings.Source: MLB.com - John Denton
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that right-hander Emmanuel Rodriguez Begins Rehab Assignment
Emmanuel Rodriguez (oblique) began a rehab assignment at Single-A Fort Myers on Wednesday. The Twins' fourth-ranked prospect has been out since suffering the injury back on July 12. It is the second time this season that the 22-year-old has had to complete a rehab assignment, having been limited to 43 games at Triple-A this year. In those 43 games, the left-handed slugger has recorded a .254/.411/.428 slash line with five home runs and seven steals. His elevated 33.1 percent strikeout rate is concerning, but he also has a knack for drawing a ton of walks, registering a 19.4 percent walk rate this season. It might be too late to make a push for a major league debut this year, but the Dominican should be in the mix for a promotion next year, although a lengthy injury history could dampen his fantasy outlook.Source: MLB.com
Minnesota Twins outfield prospect Nolan Arenado Returning to St. Louis to Have Shoulder Examined
Nolan Arenado (shoulder), who has been rehabbing in Jupiter, Fla., will return to St. Louis in the coming days to have his right shoulder examined by team doctors, according to manager Oliver Marmol. After that, a determination will be made about a minor-league rehab assignment and a possible return to the big leagues. Arenado is in the early stages of a throwing program, but it's unclear exactly when he might be able to return to the Cardinals. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting much if the 34-year-old veteran is able to return this year. The eight-time All-Star is still excellent on defense at third base, but his power numbers continue to drop and he's currently slashing just .235/.294/.366 with a career-worst .660 OPS and only 10 homers in 96 games. Nolan Gorman will continue to pick up starts at third in St. Louis with Arenado out.Source: MLB.com - John Denton
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Payton Tolle Could Make Debut on Friday
Dustin May being pushed back to Saturday, the Sox will need a pitcher for Friday, and manager Alex Cora has indicated that "everybody is in the mix" in regards to Friday's game. If it is Tolle who gets the call, he will bring tons of momentum with him after starting the season at High-A. In 20 appearances (18 starts) between High-A and Triple-A, Boston's second-ranked prospect has pitched to a 3.04 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and has tallied 133 strikeouts in only 91 2/3 innings pitched (30.2 percent K-BB%). If he gets the start, the 2024 second-rounder would be worthy of picking up in most 12-teamers and could be used in DFS for the strikeout upside.Source: Christopher Smith - MassLive
Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Payton Tolle could be in line to make his major-league debut on Friday in a home matchup against the Pirates. With
