Dylan Beavers Stays Hot, Goes Deep Twice
Dylan Beavers went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and an additional run scored in a 14-6 loss against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Beavers has been scorching at the plate recently, hitting 291/.418/.600 with five homers, two stolen bases, and an 11:10 BB:K in 55 bats in July. Beavers is now up to an incredibly impressive .305/.405/.502 line to go with 13 homers and 20 steals in 329 plate appearances on the season. He is the only player in Triple-A this year with those power and speed totals along with an OBP of at least .400. The 23-year-old is approaching a promotion to the big leagues soon with production levels like this, and he should be on the radar of fantasy managers in deeper leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Caden Dana Has Abbreviated Outing on Wednesday
Caden Dana allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three across 2 1/3 innings against Triple-A Albuquerque. Dana threw only 52 pitches in this outing and was largely ineffective despite only conceding one run. It's been a tough season at Triple-A Salt Lake for the 21-year-old right-hander, as he holds a 6.13 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and a 54:31 K:BB. He made a couple of appearances with the Angels earlier in the year and allowed five runs in six innings on seven hits and five walks. After a dominant 2024 season at Double-A with a 2.52 ERA in 135 2/3 innings, Dana has taken a bit of a step back this season. He still rates as one of the best arms in the Angels system, though, and is plenty young enough to correct course.Source: MiLB.com
Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect J.J. Wetherholt Slugs Two Homers on Wednesday
J.J. Wetherholt went 2-for-4 with two homers in Wednesday's 6-0 win against Triple-A Gwinnett. Wetherholt crushed a hanging curveball in the bottom of the first to get the scoring started, and then sent his next homer 444 feet for the second-longest homer of the night in Triple-A. The 22-year-old was a hard-hit machine in this one, with his four batted balls having exit velocities of 100.4, 101.1, 105.4, and 106.7 MPH. The Cardinals prospect has had no issues in his transition from Double-A to Triple-A, as he is hitting .379/.455/.966 with four homers and a 4:5 BB:K in 33 plate appearances. If he continues on a torrid pace like this, he could make his MLB debut by season's end.Source: MiLB.com
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Taj Bradley Demoted to Triple-A
Taj Bradley to Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The club made the move after Bradley's rough start against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Bradley didn't factor into the decision in an 11-9 loss, but he put the Rays behind the 8-ball by surrendering four runs in 1 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits, walked three, and didn't record any strikeouts over 55 pitches (32 strikes). The 24-year-old pitched well during a previous three-start stretch in which he allowed just four earned runs in 17 2/3 frames. Overall, though, Bradley has pitched to an uninspiring 4.61 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and 95:41 K:BB across 111 1/3 innings. Bradley's name has come up in recent trade speculation, making this an intriguing situation to monitor leading up to the July 31 deadline. For now, the team seems likely to turn to Joe Boyle to take Bradley's rotation spot.Source: Marc Topkin - Tampa Bay Times
The Tampa Bay Rays have optioned right-hander Oneil Cruz Likely to Stay Put at Trade Deadline
Oneil Cruz before the July 31 deadline, but they're not likely to deal him, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. While the last-place Pirates are going to sell pieces off in the next week, they're not under any pressure to part with Cruz. He's making a near-minimum salary this year and will be under control via arbitration through 2028. They're content to go forward with the toolsy 26-year-old, who has hit a decent .215/.318/.417 with 16 homers, 39 RBI, 50 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases over 381 plate appearances. With Cruz ranking near the top of the league in average exit velocity, barrel percentage, hard-hit rate, and bat speed, there may be more in the tank.Source: Mark Feinsand
The Pittsburgh Pirates are willing to entertain trade offers for outfielder Sawyer Gipson-Long Pulled Off Rehab Assignment
Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck) has been pulled off his rehab assignment because of ongoing neck issues and "general fatigue," Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Gipson-Long, on the 15-day injured list with neck stiffness since July 2, had an ugly rehab start with Triple-A Toledo last Friday. The 27-year-old yielded seven runs on nine hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings. He complained of fatigue afterward, which led the Tigers to hit pause on his rehab. Gipson-Long could throw a bullpen session in the coming days and then restart a rehab assignment, according to Petzold. The former sixth-round pick has pitched 23 innings in the bigs this year and logged a 4.70 ERA with 18 strikeouts and four walks.Source: Evan Petzold - Detroit Free Press
Detroit Tigers right-hander Shane Bieber Potentially On the Move at Trade Deadline
Shane Bieber (elbow) "available" leading up to the July 31 trade deadline, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Bieber underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2024 and hasn't pitched in the majors since then. The former Cy Young winner is progressing in his minor-league rehab assignment, though, and could return in August. Bieber is in the first season of a two-year, $26 million contract, but he could opt out of a $16 million player option in favor of a $4 million buyout in the offseason. The 30-year-old is likely to do that if he returns to health and pitches well down the stretch, but it's anyone's guess how he'll look on the heels of a serious procedure and a lengthy absence. The Guardians sit a manageable 2 1/2 games out of playoff position and don't look like clear-cut sellers, which further complicates matters.Source: Jeff Passan

Felix Bautista "Doesn't Feel Right" on Wednesday
Felix Bautista (undisclosed) was unexpectedly unavailable for the team's 3-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters afterward. "Something didn't feel right, so we shut him down," Mansolino said. "We'll have more information by tomorrow." Bautista has made a resoundingly successful return this season from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in September 2023. The 30-year-old right-hander has converted 19 of 20 saves and recorded a stellar 2.60 ERA with 50:23 K:BB and a 1.13 WHIP in 34 2/3 innings. The Orioles and fantasy managers are left to hope he's not dealing with another serious injury.Source: Andy Kostka - The Baltimore Banner

Hunter Greene Strong in Rehab Start
Hunter Greene (groin) delivered an encouraging performance in a rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Wednesday. Greene, who's working back from a strained right groin, tossed two scoreless, no-hit innings with four strikeouts against one walk. The 25-year-old threw 28 pitches (16 strikes), and should climb to the Triple-A level for a start on July 29 if he gets through the next handful of days unscathed. Greene has been on the 15-day IL twice this year with groin issues and hasn't pitched since June 3. When healthy, though, Greene has been spectacular. He owns a 2.72 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP and 73:14 K:BB across 59 2/3 innings.Source: MiLB.com
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Marcelo Mayer Exits Game with Wrist Discomfort
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) exited the team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday with right-wrist discomfort, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Mayer scored on a Romy Gonzalez grand slam in the top of the fifth inning, but the team then replaced him at third base with Abraham Toro. Mayer went 0-for-1 with a walk on Wednesday before departing. The 22-year-old rookie has hit .228/.272/.402 with four homers, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored in his first 136 major league plate appearances. The Red Sox are off on Thursday, so Mayer may not miss any time if the injury is minor. UPDATE: Mayer was wearing a brace on his right wrist after the game and said he will undergo an MRI exam. “It’s in pain but hopefully it’s not too severe,” he said.Source: Chris Cotillo - MassLive.com
Boston Red Sox infielder Shohei Ohtani to Make Next Start on July 30
Shohei Ohtani will make his next start as a pitcher on July 30 against the Cincinnati Reds, manager Dave Roberts said. The Dodgers are hoping to get a season-high four innings from the right-hander, who continues a gradual buildup in his return to pitching from 2023 Tommy John surgery. The flamethrowing Ohtani has recorded a brilliant 1.50 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB over six short starts and 12 innings. He totaled three frames in each of his previous two outings. As a hitter, Ohtani has continued to dazzle. The 31-year-old is on a five-game home run streak, giving him an NL-high 37 over 465 plate appearances. Ohtani is also slashing a tremendous .273/.377/.620 with 70 RBI, a league-leading 97 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases.Source: Sonja Chen - MLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers two-way sensation Mookie Betts Questionable for Friday's Game
Mookie Betts (personal) could miss their next game on Friday against the Boston Red Sox for personal reasons, manager Dave Roberts announced. "There might be some things going on that he might not be around, that he's got to deal with personally," Roberts told reporters. "Everything is okay with him, but yeah, we'll see." Fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on Betts' status leading up to Friday and the rest of the Dodgers' weekend road series against his former team. Miguel Rojas has been the Dodgers' primary fill-in at shortstop this year when Betts hasn't played.Source: Sonja Chen - MLB.com
