Marcelo Mayer Exits Game with Wrist Discomfort
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) exited the team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday with right-wrist discomfort, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Mayer scored on a Romy Gonzalez grand slam in the top of the fifth inning, but the team then replaced him at third base with Abraham Toro. Mayer went 0-for-1 with a walk on Wednesday before departing. The 22-year-old rookie has hit .228/.272/.402 with four homers, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored in his first 136 major league plate appearances. The Red Sox are off on Thursday, so Mayer may not miss any time if the injury is minor. UPDATE: Mayer was wearing a brace on his right wrist after the game and said he will undergo an MRI exam. “It’s in pain but hopefully it’s not too severe,” he said.
